The show hooks people(mostly young impressionable girls) on LOOKS, and the current flavor of disposable music and rapes that shit over and over for(now, because they've added AT LEAST 8 weeks since the beginning) 16 weeks.
The auditions can be funny, and are a train wreck you just can't turn away from....
None of the winners, or runner-ups for that matter, will be remembered for any salient contribution to music.....
Idol is a money-making machine for Simon Fuller, plain and simple. The show is an advertising goldmine.
And I'm sorry, any person over the age of 20 who finds this show appealing and 'cant miss it', is a wackadoo.
I believe the show is fixed, and a couple of levels, and I don't believe the public really has control of the voting process...
Melinda Doolittle had the best voice, and the most singing talent of ANY idol contestant up til now....and that she didn't win bothered me.
I admittedly watched the first season, and have picked and poked at it since then.....after hearing Melinda sing...chose to finish that season....
The judges are a joke....they are stereotypical characitures. Simon is the bad cop. Randy is the cluless ex-musician(barely), and Paula, who seems only to care about a contestant's fashion, and about people 'making the song their own.' The woman has 3 mins to form an opinion and she fumbles over the critique like it was a surprise.? Her pseudo-flirtation with Simon is scripted, and her alcoholic/drug inspired weirdness is deplorable....
Call me a whackadoo!! I don't put that much thought in to it. I jut find it entertaining.
