I've never been married and at 37, I still don't feel like I need to be. If I found a wonderful guy, it would be nice to get married, but I'm fine on my own too if the right guy never comes along and I like my independence. I would rather be single than married to the wrong person!

I can see why you would be bitter and not trusting after going though a terrible experience like that, but there are lots of good honest women out there. Don't give up just because you got burned. Hopefully in time you'll be ready for a relationship again.

I know i know it just took me a while to get over that. As the old saying goes there are plenty of fish in the sea. I wonder if babyblue could be interested? j/k

Congrats on all the long lived marriages around here - it gives a cynical person like me some hope in people.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

23 years here. Dated for over five years so 29 total. Holy crap! Don't think I've done the math recently. Can't believe it.

Much to be thankful for. She got me through college, gave me three great daughters, and puts up with the kid in me that never wants to grow up.

Example...even though she doesn't like concerts, she'll go on occasion but is fine with me going with others...even giving me three Advils when I get home cause she knows I'll need them. :)

That's crazy it's all worked out for you guys, congrats! I can't imagine marrying someone without dating them for at least a year... but I know there are plenty of happy couples in your guys' situation.

WARNING! TMI ALERT: So, all you happily married's out there, what's the secret? What are some of the "must do's" & "must dont's"? I mean, seriously, I know sex isn't everything in a marriage but it's HUGELY important to me & so, (at the risk of sounding like a jerk), I can't fathom the thought of spending the rest of my life having sex with only one person. I can't imagine being that compatible with anyone. Doesn't it get boring? And what about drive? Some people have a strong sex drive (read: Jason) & some people could take it or leave it (read: Jason's ex) & I don't want to spend the rest of my life begging for a little sumptin, sumptin from my honey. I want it when I want it & that is ALWAYS! If I don't have sex at least once a day I get cranky..... I mean REALLY cranky ..... I mean "GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY FACE BEFORE I MESS YOU UP !!!" cranky.

It's my kryptonite. :(

So what's the secret to a lasting relationship?

When I got married we said all that for better or worse stuff and we actually meant it. That and as you get older together everything starts sagging and you really dont want to get naked in front of anybody else. Marriage takes alot of work and it is not easy but there isnt anybody else I would ever want to spend my life with. PLUS she gave me three fantastic kids!

Jason, a great deal of that will subside as you age. It is normal for a young man to have a stronger drive. Women for the most part have a stronger drive in their mid life. Wich seems to be weird. LOL! Sex is not all there is in a marriage. Trust, love, fidelity, friendship, compatability, respect all play key factors. Because my husband bears all these qualities I am more attracted to him every day. Some days neither of us feel like having sex. But when we do, it is mutual, and sweet. Sorry, no RD pimply vajayjay story here. Usually if your partner loves you...........they will want to please you always. :D

MG: WOW! I think I dated him.... only when he was with me he was a her. Seven years I put up with that "No one else will have you" crap.

KW: When things start to sag on me it's gonna be, "Lights out & full steam ahead."

Seriously, though, to me trust, friendship, capatability, respect & so forth should all go without saying b/c that should all be a part of the make-up of who you are & of what brought you together in the first place. It's the sex thing that's the big hang-up IMO. A4P, you said that will subside with age. ..... I'm 31 so when? I hear men are supposed to hit their peek at 18 so what's wrong with my internal clock?

Lastly, I have no idea what an RD, pimply vajayjay story is. Do I wanna go there?
