I've been dreading the idea of selecting a new phone, but I'm going to do it this year.
My contract is up at the end of June (I may choose to buy out early, I'm not sure).

I have a stupid flip phone and I really have HAD it with that crap.
I want a phone with gizmos! I want facebook and twitter and twitpic and all that shit that I don't need.

I discovered the absolute NEED for these things last weekend in L.A. and bugging Rhi to use HER phone to get on the internet, and then again when I was BORED at the airport.  Try reading MR on a flip phone... um... does NOT work.

I think I need one with a qwerty and not a touchscreen.
But the qwerty on the BlackBerry looks too tiny for me.
I'd be frustrated all to hell in about 30 seconds fighting with that thing.

No iPhone because it's AT&T and because my I about died when my friend told me what she pays monthly for the iPhone/AT&T service that includes all the web browsing and all that. Hell no.

So I'm not sure what I'm gonna do.

I have a Droid Eris and I love it. I had to get used to the touchscreen but it didn't take long. I have no complaints about it at all. I went with it after reading reviews of several smartphones. (Plus, I already had Verizon)

IPhone is ridiculous! The videos! The music! The televison shows! The sounds. The noises! I like how you can flip and flip and do all those fun kinds of things. It's everything all in one and that's why I love it. It's costly but if you want to have fun and you want to freak people out with sounds that comes from strange places and sounds weird then the IPhone I think is a wonderful thing to have with all kinds of fun to do when and if you ever get bored.

Awe, you kept a pic of your first phone, how cute  I didn't say I don't like it, just leery of ever getting used to one. The thing that screws me up on Lynn's is when the letters POP up when you push them. That's a dumb feature IMO, if there's a way to turn that off, that would be great, lol.

It's all about getting used to it though. Typing something with it once every 6 months you can't. When you use it all day everyday,it gets faster and easier. Have you seen my kids text on a cheap flip phone   Alyssa can do it behind her back   You would get used to a touch screen. But doesn't the 3G phone that Rick mentioned have a keypad and a touchscreen? I cant' remember... I think only the Iphone has a touchscreen keyboard, right?

Oh yeah, I got pretty good with it before getting rid of my flip phone, lol. Love having a full keyboard much better! You are pretty fast on yours considering you use ONE finger

Anybody type with their thumbs on an iPhone?

For me, one of the main reasons I've resisted the Smart Phone movement is because I've always hated people's rudeness with cell phones and Smart Phones have just compounded them. I can't stand sitting there at a bar watching a game with one of my friends and he's spending every other minute pulling something else up on his iPhone. I also can't stand when people try to "show" me YouTube videos and shit on an iPhone. That's not a screen or speaker made for group viewing...

Blackberry Bold 2 (9700)

The mouse pad blows the trackball away. No touchscreen worries, outstanding battery life, really a great phone. The price for upgrade or new contract with T-Mobile is $130.

Hubby and I pay less than that for our 2 for the same thing, but that's not bad for 2 iPhones, I thought it was more. I've never looked at AT&T's prices.

I totally hate that. When everyone around me can whip out there phones at any given time and surf the internet I get pissed. I think it's rude. And my fear of getting one of those is that I would start doing it and I don't want to do that. Nor do I want the people I have bitched at about it to call me out on doing the same thing I gave them shit about.

I remember one time being out to dinner with two people, BOTH of whom pulled out their phones and were surfing, etc. I'm sitting there like wow, am I that boring or are they that into their facebook or whatever they're looking at on those phones? it made me want to have a smartphone just so I would have something to do instead of just sitting there.

Yeah that looks like the one I've been looking at too. People seem to rave about that trackpad over the trackball.

My son had recently got a cliq, he returned it for this one and loves it. It's very light. The mouse pad is just leaps and bounds beyond the trackball. Try to demo it in a store and you'll be hooked.

I have Blackberry Bold 9000
QWERTY keyboard and trackball.
No problems with the trackball.

The keyboard is wider than the other Blackberries and so is the screen [obviously] - so for watching youtube etc on it the wide screen is great!
The only downside of it being wide is when you text.
I have always texted with the thumb of one hand, now, I have to use both hands because the span of my thumb isn't quite wide enough to reach across the keypad to hit all the letters!

But I have small hands.
So maybe that's only a problem for me.

In the UK it costs me £35 per month for unlimited texts, unlimited internet access and 600 minutes of free phone calls.
