He's taken great care of his voice because he had years of not doing ANYTHING. Still, great singer.

Say what?!? If he wasn't doing solo albums and touring (I know, more recently) he was also doing a little Broadway (remember "Jesus Christ Superstar"?), there wasn't a lot of time he wasn't doing anything :?

Correct. Dennis has always maintained a busy, yet responsible, schedule over the years.

The JCSS thing was very short lived.
he recorded (at his house) the Hunchback album. But he didn't tour for a long time.
There actually was a long period where he wasn't doing anything. He (like another singer) wasn't a touring guy. Didn't like to tour.
Kept Styx from doing more shows than they did. He did solo albums, but no shows. He's only just recently (within the past few years) gotten back out on the road, but his tours are very small affairs compared to Styx (a touring machine). He did his latest album over a year ago, and before that, nothing since Styx's BNW, which has been quite a few years. Wait, he also did the orchestra Styx thing, but it was only a few shows.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Just like Journey last year, and in particular Pineda, he didn't take the Beer Garden seriously and he too shit the bed while the rest of the band sounded their usual good self. Speaking of the Beer Garden, did anyone see Steve Winwood yesterday? Good fucking lord, dude was awful.

PS= I went back and viewed the last 4 or SB Halftime shows and they were all better than the Who was. Not picking on Roger or Pete as they are classic players but I agree with Bwool- rehearse and take it seriously Pete! Bruce took it very serious, as did U2 and Prince. Those were probably the best shows ever arguably.

I did that too. The U2 show was really emotional for me. I don't know why, maybe just cuz I loved the songs they played. Paul's was great too, but no surprises really. Prince's was also very cool. Best 1/2 Time show goes to U2. Seriously great performance.

I watched Pauls, U2's, Bruce and Prince's. You know I would say this but to me Bruce won going away. He was more original and told a chronological story with the four songs. Prince was good but needed the guitar/dick stunt to make it successful. Paul sounded great and U2 was stunning. To me, Bruce and U2 were by far the best. Oh yeah, saw Michael Jackson and he sucked. The Who was supposed to carry on Classic Rock's mantle but failed miserably. Let me ask you this Brywool- can the Who do better or are they just out of gas? Was that the best they could do or don't they give a shit anymore? By the way, the Stones sucked miserably.

I think the Who coulda done better. Check that Concert for New York link I posted earlier. Maybe their finest hour as a live band. (my opinion). Yeah, I saw Jackson's today too. I didn't remember ever seeing that before. All on tape....

I have seen the Who's NYC show. It was a top 5 for sure. Bravo on that one.

Awesome show. of course the old shows are the best. Isle of Wight and Tanglewood have to be the top 2.

Here's the Super Bowl Video they made. Interesting look at the rehearsals, backstage all that shit. Shows them in the trailers, the nervousness, set list decisions, etc.

You mean Styx and the neverending tour since 99? Dennis started touring not long after he got kicked out of the band doing some fantastic symphony shows and a few shows with fellow former Styx member Glen Burtnick and doing some "Lost Treasures" show also. He's prolly been more active recently with his redux of his Hunchback show and very recently with the "101 Dalmatians" on Broadway as well as doing a few shows here and there. No he's not over-saturating the market so to speak but he's still pretty active for being (almost) 63 years old

The Boss provided more excitement and energy to our party last year than any other act I can remember. The Who laid the biggest egg in recent memory. Yikes.

I was cringing most of the show and our whole group caught the lipping, with everyone simultaneoulsy looking at each other and asking..."did you see that?"

One of my old grad school buddies was in the stadium, and he said they sounded a little wonky, but that the show was awesome nevertheless.

Why does Styx constantly touring present an issue for folks? It'd be great if they'd do another new album as Cyclorama rocked, but they've pretty much said that since there's no outlet for it, it really doesn't make sense to them (I don't agree with that. They could sell many through their web site and cut the record company out of it).

Regarding Dennis- It took him a very long time to get back into the live game. His tours are very short affairs. Nothing like what Styx has been doing. I guess if 101 Dalmations and Hunchback is what you want out of Dennis, then there's no problem. I would rather see him doing new ROCK records. Having said that, his latest album had a few really great rock songs on it. It also had some terrible "Suzanne filler". The rest was decent.

And again... the age card comes up. I guess people should just quit performing when they're 30???
I'm not saying Dennis hasn't done anything. I'm saying that since 97, it took him a LONG time to get back in the ROCK game. His first non-broadway album only came out last year. That's 12 years after his last Styx show. That's a long time to not be doing anything in my book. He did a VERY FEW classical and lost classic shows, but not anything like a major tour (which he's never really liked doing).

Now, it looks like he's getting back into the swing of things. I hope so and I hope that he does some more ROCK stuff. It would be cool to see him at the Superbowl, but I doubt it would ever happen and hopefully, if it did, Mr. Roboto wouldn't be the song he'd pull out.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.
