She was actually the first person I asked to come along with me and I couldn't of been more privileged to take her! Problem is, she is so far in debt as it is in schooling that she saves every penny to her name to help out her mom, who is a single parent after her dad passed away some years ago. Last year, her cousin got married and now this year she's back to being the brides maid in her brothers wedding, so she's getting SLAMMED and that's typically where she worries about me and her with financial situations. I treat her to EVERYTHING imaginable but wouldn't even be able to help her out since Florida & school is her main priority. :?

WATCH that debt situation man. Very closely. Money issues with in laws tends to = control. I know a girl, nice as she can be, but she works a pretty simple job and has something ridiculous like $50,000 in student loans and two kids. Her marriage is extremely strained. Also know a 16-year old kid whose girlfriend's mother helped him move into their home with her daughter a few months ago. His family is seriously worried that she'll have him dropping out of school to get a job and help pay their bills.

This is rehashing all of my early memories of my inlaws   Italian moms and their sons have a reputation and it rang true for me! Ill never forget when they wanted so bad to stop us from getting married, because we were "too young" in our early 20's. So they sat us down and wanted a meeting that felt like an intervention at the time  she asked us "how will you live, what will you do for money" mind you I finished college, got my degree and had a decent paying great job right out of school. I remember feeling both shocked and insulted. My husband was still working on his degree while working, sure, but he had goals and we were fine. That was the beginning of a lot of resentment with them. And many more years of controlling situations we had to fight to get out of. I won't bore with the stories  Most of the time my husband put his foot down, but he's always was very careful how he tread with them too because they were SO great with guilt, and it worked a lot of times. Overall he was pretty supportive of me. Though sometimes there were things he wouldn't tell me because then he didn't have to hear me get upset.

Things still come up now and then. But overall they have mellowed a lot with age and so have I. And I've grown to love them even with their quirks and annoyances. But it sure can cause stress on a relationship for sure! I had to learn to let go of a lot of things I carried around from early on. If your relationship is strong enough, you can definitely get through it, as long as you support each other and realize parents don't come first in a relationship. As much as we love them, they can't.But I also know what an important part of our lives they are for my husband and kids. So
I do the best I can to make sure my feelings don't affect that in a negative way.

And this is way off topic with ticket sales

No, please go ahead... LOL! Here's one of my favorites, and this one takes the freaking CAKE!!!

After moving her out the 2nd time, MIL tried to talk her out of coming back home by showing her an article about some quiet, peaceful suburban husband who went nuts and had murdered and dismembered his wife. She indicated that something like that could happen to her if she returned. So the wife actually got offended this time and told her mom basically that I'd never gotten physical during arguments and was the furthest thing away from anyone who would do something like that. MIL replied by pointing out a quote in the story from a neighbor who said, "He was always so nice and gentle. We never in a million years could have imagined him killing anyone!" UNbelievable.

For sure, that debt can really hang over your head, especially since there will be an expectation you'll help with it once things get serious.

Speaking of student loans, this JUST hit Yahoo page. ACK!!!

The $555,000 Student-Loan Burden (excerpt)

When Michelle Bisutti, a 41-year-old family practitioner in Columbus, Ohio, finished medical school in 2003, her student-loan debt amounted to roughly $250,000. Since then, it has ballooned to $555,000...

It's safe to say that i'll never let ANYONE tell me what to do with my money. I've already booked the trip far in advance to where they already knew I was going to commit to it. It wasn't until the night planning the wedding that things were in question (to which it was my decision to be apart of months ago, I had a choice not to go or TO go. I committed to that since my girl will be having summer school classes and our time might be limited, so I made the decision to tag along and support her in the wedding.)

The problem isn't the trip to Chicago, but rather the time gap between trips only being 2 weeks apart of each other and they are concerned that with my new job that isn't guaranteed money after so many days that I should think about future expenses rather than booking two trips that would cost a lot of dough 2 weeks in between each other.

Like I said, my girl only brought it up to make sure I could do it and if I didn't overlook things that are already happening' and ultimately wants me to go because she knows it's important to me, that's not the problem. The family chimed in their opinion and it was kind of a out of nowhere since they stay out of my business but they feel the trips are too close together considering my job and the already committed trip with them to Florida. It's not a control thing at all but I let my thoughts known and that's where things got awkward to the point of I might have to think twice about this.

I sat down this morning and talked little about it and they let me know that they didn't want to step on my toes and that they are just looking out for me in all of this and it was blown out of proportion. I'm not canceling anything until I sit down and really figure out my schedule in what I'm going to be making in the next few months and what's guaranteed and what's not.

I apologize for dragging everyone into this, it wasn't my intention to do that but I felt comfortable in letting you guys know the low-down. I'll be keeping posted and appreciate the feedback, you guys are great. I'll let you know the situation sooner rather than later!

Workin' 7-7 throughout the weekend my man. I shouldn't even be up now. Would of finished up Thursday night but with the snow, we were shutdown for 5 days, got paid though. 8) Wish it could be that easy dude, I'd be up Cleveland with you every damn week.

I'll bring some gravel, then. Snowed more here in the past few weeks than it has in 3 years, and there's sand, gravel and rock salt everywhere. What a mess.

Oh, that's soooo punny! LOL...

I'm still in a daze thinking about Winger being there. I think Andrew's going to lose his deposit once Kip & crew finish wrecking the place. :) I'm still holding out hope that Don Dokken may show up to do an acoustic set Friday night.

Now Andrew is teasing us with even more.

From the front page:

MELODIC ROCK FEST 2 - UPDATES:
A few updates for those fans attending MelodicRockFest 2 in Elgin (Chicago) April 30-May 2 and perhaps for those also considering coming along! Believe me; it's going to be a very special weekend indeed. I have just been talking to one of the performers about adding some special guests to their set; another performer about doing something special with their set; and one of the Friday night VIP acts about doing something very cool indeed that was not previously considered!

And the guest list keeps building including another act for Friday night and another name melodic rock act to be added to the bill Saturday. Details next week!

The Friday show (part of the VIP ticket package) will also feature several special guests just coming along to say hello to the fans! The Eden's Curse guys will be there, as will Terry Brock and Valentine, Talon, Far Cry, Terje Eide (On The Rise), Eclipse and Robert Sall plus Gary Brandon of White Sister is hoping to come along and others I'll mention later.

Of course the VIP Friday show will include a 30 minute acoustic set from Alias (Steve DeMarchi and Freddy Curci); a few acoustic numbers from Rock Sugar, Riverdogs frontman Rob Lamothe will deliver at least 30 minutes of Riverdogs and solo material and then there's the first EVER performance from the AOR-tastic Mecca!

Tickets are on sale via PayPal right here, right now and an agent for phone sales is being set up for those without PayPal or a preference for that method of payment. Stay tuned for details. Any questions - as always - let me know.

I must also state that at this stage - MRF2 is an Over 21 event.

Andrew....is it too early to tell, or do you know which bands will have their CD's FS at the fest? I can go ahead and hunt some down, but if they will be selling them, I would rather buy them directly from them.

Also...don't keep all these surprises from us VIPers!!!! Which bands/acts have been added????
