It wasn't him, it was the writing that was ho-hum. He wasn't given music to really showcase his voice. It just feels like a rushed album to me.

I believe if Journey had ended a few years back, Schon might very well have a Grammy award or two now. He's been nominated before but since he only has toured with Journey and never been out there pushing his own stuff like other guitarists who have continued after their bands have passed on, he really Isn't revered as much outside of professional music circles. When you mention Journey, a lot more people will know who Perry is, or even Arnel for that matter as compared to Cain or Schon. If Neal toured SOLO for a few years UNDER HIS NAME, I guarantee, the media would be all abuzz about how finally got away from the bubble gum pop rock that defines Journey and was proving himself to be one of the finer guitarists out there.

The rumor's quite a stretch...looks deduced from nowhere. Intelligence scoops of this strain  though are commonplace here nowadays in light of the prevailing entertainment gossip void.

I agree and I don't think it's a coincidence that Neal is finally touring under his own name and playing his solo music while the band is on hiatus - if his solo tour is successful enough, it might be a deciding factor in when he calls an end to Journey and goes on alone. He should have a Grammy, but then Journey should have had several almost 30 years ago.

So that's why the album sucked? The music this band has made since Trial By Fire has slowly taken a turn for the worse. Arrival was a very good album, Red 13 was an OK EP, Generations was very hit and miss, which brought us to...Revelation.

In a word for me this album was very underwhelming. The lone strong tracks on the album are "Never Walk Away", "Change For The Better", and "After All These Years". The rest of the tracks are either alright (The Journey, Turn Down The World Tonight), or the uninspired (Like A Sunshower- was I the only one who wants to sing "Lights" whenever I hear this song, and everything else). There really isn't anything to write home about on the release. 22 total tracks with 10 new tracks (including an Augeri cover).

I kid when I say that it's Arnel's fault the album sucked because it's not. The problem is that the band doesn't vary their song writing enough anymore. Back when they were at the top of their game they had the soft songs like Open Arms, Faithfully, etc., but those albums also had their rockers. Where are the Keep On Runnin', Separate Ways, Stone In Love, Be Good To Yourself, Chain Reaction, Edge of The Blade, Escape, Lay It Down, and Dead Or Alive tracks that complimented Escape and Frontiers so well? Those albums are well known for their soft hits, but they had their balls out rockin' tracks as well. Listening to Revelation makes me want to go to sleep. Trial By Fire and Arrival were similiar to this effect in that they were to soft, but the difference is that the tracks that were on each of those releases was that they were good for the most part. Sure both albums had some fat they could've cut out, but other than 3 songs on Revelation and 6 tracks off Generations the last two albums have well sucked.

I wonder if this is another case of a shitty media outlet taking advantage of the fact that English isn't AP's native language and translating what he says to suit their agenda. After all, Rolling Stone did it didn't they?

Probably. I'd say don't listen to any of the shit you hear out there. There is a new album coming out and there is a big world tour planned for 2011. Those are not things you plan for when it is known that a member is on the way out. I understand there are a handful of dissenters out there over a few different forums who would like nothing better than for this news to be true, but they are a major minority. Even if they got their wish, then what? It's not like just anyone can carry the Journey catalog though a world tour. Some people need a reality check.

I think Rolling Stone printed exactly what Pineda said. Because it didn't jive with what the band expected him to say, that's where Neal stepped in and the "taken out of context" defense cropped up. Because RS has never trumpeted the band it was easy to paint them as the bad guy but in that instance, I think they didn't do anything wrong.
As for this stuff here, it's Philippine media printing it to begin with so there is no language barrier, just sensationalistic journalism at work.

The Golden Goose isn't going anywhere. The only way Pineda gets canned is if Nostrildamus finds his balls and comes back. In Pineda, they have a guy that's clean and sober, works hard and is very professional, is an A-1 human being and has that giant voice they've been missing since Nostrildamus left. I see 3-5 more years for these guys.
