Come on Jana, be fucking real for once in a row! I ought to spank your ass. :D

Uh, Deano, the perfection was really meant for Perry's vocals on that particular song. If you would stop digging your heels in and listen to some classic Journey again, you might redevelop an appreciation for these songs.

I know Jana, but Neal is still part of classic Journey, and well, he is a stain on an otherwise damned good band, so I can't go there. Valory too for that matter...but like he said, "I am an alcoholic" though  Says the guy who snorted his way to bankruptcy, and covers up his very mediocre bass playing by shooting water pistols like Quick Draw McGraw.

I don't know Neal as you do, Dean, but come on. Don't downplay what Neal did, and still does for the band. As far at Valory goes; most of you already know what I think of him. He's unimaginative, soulless and mediocre. Same goes for Castronovo. I've always preferred vintage Journey (not that crap pre Perry, but the stuff from 77-80) and Deen doesn't fit in with that at all. He's a metal/hard rock drummer. Journey isn't hard rock - it shouldn't be anyways.

But Steveo is right about Arnel saving Journey. They wouldn't be as successful today without the shitload of publicity and coverage they got from Arnel. And the brigade of tiny little Filipinos that's worshiping Arnel as the new coming of the fairy god Bathala kinda helps too. Neal's got his own tour for experimenting and being creative - there's no place for that in Journey. The common fan wants to hear Open Arms, not Wind's of March or I'm Crying (Both awesome songs.)

Like I said....it's the Journey of today.

It's not my Journey and it has not been for a long time....I guess I have come to the point of acceptance

and well I can listen to the Winds of March anytime I want to...and do!

Like I said before I like my bands with the lead singers that made the music, for me that is where
the magic was made...unfortunately some of my favorite bands had members who can't get along..maybe
that is why the music was so damn good! They are passionate people who put that into their music...but
it also made them the type of personalities that are not ones to compromise on the music or with each other.
That is what made them ALL so great...and irreplaceable. IMHO

I don't know. Maybe most bands didn't get along a little bit when making music, but they are still hungry in the beginning and have a common goal together and I think are friends for the most part. Then they get rich and they've been together a while, and egos are involved, and have relationships or marriages, and usually substance abuse issues, and it takes a toll. Like a long-term marriage with major issues. It's really too much to expect that the majority of bands would still be together past their youth and hit-making era. They get married/divorced/kids and they're sick of each other when they're grown men with familes and don't want to travel the better part of a year with each other or creatively want to delve into other areas. I look at the ones still together as a miracle.

Now wait a minute Gael. I only ride Valory, not because he sucks that bad, I mean he isn't that good, but he hits the right notes I suppose, but he's nothing to write home about- anyway, I ride that wrinkled paper looking face of his for a good reason. I actually call him Atlas now, because his grill resembles that of a road map. In Boston, Ross and I sat down and talked about what happened in Fakegate, and he was cool to it, until Neal basically said it's ok; anyway, Ross was great. Partied with him, hung out one on one, did all that shit, chugged beers etc etc..it was a great time. I informed him that you know, you guys fucked up, let's move on yadda yadda yadda. Ok, so we moved on. I mean, I moved on. That sonofabitch opened his piehole with an European fishwrap interviewer, and instead of deflecting questions, doesn't go general vague, or just be non chalant about all of it, he gets loose and calls me an alcoholic. Um, okay Ross. Like I wouldn't see or read this? So now Mr. Valory wants me to close my mouth? LOL, ok dude. It's a shame too, because of all 4 of those assholes, I thought he was the best guy out of them all...in fact he probably still is, but that's not saying much. We all know about Friga..he comes in last. Neal is right on his heels and Deen is a surprising third. You all think Deen is this quiet, faithful loving band brother...I got news for you, he is no such thing. Now of course that tampon RobbieG will come busting in here discredits all my smack, like what that asspimple says is taken seriously? The only guy on RobbieG's jock is Red13Joepa..They were made for each other; two spineless timid fags, who will suck at the Journey teet til Neal says to stop. Pathetic Dolly Madison's, both of them..LOL @ those two idiots.

Parfait, continuing on, I don't want to be seen as some bitter basher for bashing sake, and I am going to really tone it down, but Neal...man that guy. I am just shaking my head at him right now..LOL, we had some fun times together, and he was real cool when I was his guest..no real need to blast him here, not now, but to your question P-

When I say I can't listen to classic Journey even..Dude, it's hard for me, because yes, there are a lot of good memories, and the music was that good, and he can play the axe quite well, but Goddammit..why am I the only guy here who thinks playing to a tape is criminal? Why do the rest of you give them a pass so fast and so easily? It makes me look like Mussolini, when all I want is for people to understand what happened and to examine the case. I just don't think this is something that can be nor should be swept under the rug...Dammit, but all of you here, save for a handful, just want us to shut up and pretend it never happened. Sorry man, the answer to that is a simple "no." Personally, and I have explained this 100 times, and I am not even a rock star, but I respect the entity that is rock n roll and music in general, and for a member of the community to piss on it like they knowingly did. Yeah Neal is awesome, but that doesn't excuse him from that act of bullshit. It surprises me too, that many of you here who give them a pass, are hardcore music lovers, some being players too. That's what really bewilders me. The sports friends I know certainly don't give MLB players a pass on roids usage. Ok, back from a shit break that took just under 45 minutes, so I lost my trrain of thought...to be continued-

God. For some reason, you have such an EMOTIONAL investment in keeping the tapegate incident front and center. Can't you just enjoy the music? I said one time before that I am a once and forever fan of Journey (Neal) and nothing short of murder is going to change that. I GET that you can't get past that and I feel for you... However, I feel for him, too--the man has worked nonstop for 40 years; tons of people depend on him; he hasn't let EVERYONE down--can't you just give him a break?!? I'm not really fussing at you, Dean, but it must be very disheartening for Neal to read the constant beratement he gets over making that mistake... Hasn't the man made that up to everyone? He plays, writes, plays, writes, gets girlfriends, oops (that slipped out, lol), quits drinking, quits smoking--was really nice to you at one time. I don't know, now I'm starting to ramble and I've got to get back to work... I don't think there is really anything to FORGIVE him for, but since YOU think so, why don't you try that? For your OWN sake really... Being able to forgive others is quite a blessing--to yourself mostly... Okay, gotta go now--please think about that. If one was never forgiven for one's mistakes, one would be very, very lonely, no?

Damn! What was I thinking!??

I am sorry Neal, sorry for being upset at you. You are the absolute best guitar player in the world. I no longer am disappointed in you at the way Journey singers were let go. They were the one's at fault, not You! I am being serious here. I think you have a rock solid foundation of righteousness, of moral convictions and I believe you when you said you had no idea that Augeri was faking it. Hell yes I believe you, and I will make sure everyone within ear shot of me does know this from now on! I love the curls in your hair too. With hair like that, in addition to the fact you quit smoking and drinking, I definitely think you should go into the Hall of Fame next year, and as a celebration of that, I think the NFL should fast track you guys to play the Super Bowl next year. Who needs Perry? He wasn't that big a deal to Journey anyways. The fans came to see and hear you and Ross play first and foremost. God can that man slap the bass with the best of them or what? He set a groove that can't be matched, let alone copied by just anyone. I am coming to see you play this weekend in LA, but I am disappointed that you are booked at the HOB. HOB? Are you kidding me? What, was Staples Center being used? This is bullshit! The Sports Arena is available? I bet we could change the venue and still have a big enough walk up to damn near sell out the place and all it's 18,000 seats. Who needs Arnel? Yes, of course he is the best singer on planet Earth, but he is YOUR sideman. He gravy trains off you man! Even Cain, and all his excellence, is your sideman as well. You and Valory own the fucking stage. After that, it's the three sidemen filling out the roster. I hope I set the record straight here. The last three years have really weighed on me..not because Augeri damned near brought the band down (and you saved it from disaster by the way), but the way I may have been perceived treating you not just unfairly, but frankly, I haven't been as loyal as I could have been and for that I am sorry. I really seriously mean this. I am truly sorry, that I for once doubted you and your ethics. I should have known Augeri was the culprit, and you were nothing more than an association. I should have just trusted in you and Ross. Between you two pillars of strength, anyone, not just me, but anyone can learn to believe in something magnificent. With you two great guys, fans can now flock to the stage, get up close and personal with you and the Band again, ride together, off into the next generation. The wild Frontier may take us all for a journey, a journey that will hopefully last as long as life itself. May the bond between us the fans, and you and Ross, the true stars of rock, be forever glued together, in a way other fans can only dream of. I hope you wear those cool jeans to the show Saturday as well as that bad ass shirt with the upper buttons undone..and of course the curls in your hair..that just drives us the fans fucking wild. Please play a few of the Dirty Dozen too. I am tired of the casual Journey fan saying over and over that Perry made those songs great, when the truth is, YOU sir, you and Mr. Valory, took those songs and made them special. Please pass this on to Ross and best of luck out on the road this year. Rock on Neal!! WOOT WOOT!!

WOOT WOOT!!

If you were ever more significant to Neal than a zit on his ass, this post should get you a phone call from Fro!. What an an award winning blue ribbon post. Just fucking genius!

Gunbot, please don't disrespect the hard earned victory that is sobriety, that Mr. Schon has worked diligently to achieve. The Man is a walking and playing icon, where nary a drug is to be found, and the greatness he has achieved has been done through determination of the heart, mind and soul. Neal Schon is a god. And those curls! WOOT! WOOT!

I don't care what songs Journey plays when I go see them next tour. Neal can play the phone book and I would be pleasantly pleased!!

he's lost it. B/c we don't choose to harp on something that happened three or more years ago and dissect it or leave the band, he goes the other extreme now making fun that they're perfect, which nobody on here says they are. Deano carries on how why don't we still think about this or how can we follow this band, but RedJo posted an old thread that showed that Deano was well over it when JSS came on board and telling the band not to address it and going all around to concerts with JSS and praising the band. Talk about pot calling the kettle black. And re other things they've done, well, they're a band,I enjoy. I'm not living with them. If it was a singer leaving that I really liked and just really didn't like the next one, I probably wouldn't follow them, but I wouldn't be caught up in their personality defects. I would just move on. I just like going to a concert and hearing and seeing one of my favorite bands and they chose a great singer that I love seeing, Arnel. Pretty simple.

btw, I like my men flawed. I'll stick with Neal. J/k

It was still entertaining reading Dean's post. Nice to see he's seen the light. :D

If memory serves, Dream after Dream was a soundtrack for a Japanese movie. I'm pretty sure that the extra musicians were from a japanese symphony.
