Absolutely. Many Malmsteen fans and Malmsteen himself, for that matter, don't care as much for it. They consider it too commercial. I don't see that it's any more so than most of his other stuff. There are some kick-ass tunes on that album, especially rising force. Even the tracks that aren't so "metal" like "Dreaming (Tell Me)" are awesome.
Rising Force, Dreaming, Crystal Ball, Faster than the Speed of Light, and Krakatau are KILLER. I love Crystal Ball in particular
crystal ball was a good tune to jam to.

8-tracks were sooo much more durable!! Anyone have an eight track player?!?!
Durable? You are joking right? Those were the days. They would hardly ever play right after a few weeks. They'd always give you that warbled sound. Sometimes if you pushed the eight track tape to one side it would work better, but usually needed more techncial help... a matchbook or quarter. Then having to deal with the fading, cracking and warping of the 8 track tape. Those were the days.
Had to love the amount of space those suckers took up. I had one tape case that wouldn't have fit in many of today's cars. But the fake 8 track tape "stash" was cool.
There are some songs that I hear on the radio or on cd/mp3 and still expect to hear the break from one track to the next.
Sorry to move off cassettes. Hardly bought any as I recorded all my own off vinyl.
Wore the hell out of a ton of 8 tracks (Boston/Boston, Agents of Fortune/Blue Oyster Cult, Leftoverature/Kansas, Night Moves and Stranger in Town/Bob Segar, Equinox/Styx, Flat as a Pancake/Head East, Foreigner/Foreiner, BTO Greatest Hits, Rumours/Fleetwood Mac and Best of Bread (Parking purposes only!)...to name a few.
My first cassette was probably Journey Infinity, given to me by my friend's brother. My cassette tape player did eat a few cassettes I guess. That was a trick using a pen or pencil to try to rewind the tape back on the cassette.
Another interesting thread would be what kind of stereo, speakers and amp/equalizer folks had in their cars back in the day. Mine was worth way more than my car.
Sorry to ramble. It is actually clear and well on the way to 80 today. Don't want to work.

i used to love them CDs that you coujld unscrew and turn the a and b sides around - or stick in a different tape by a completey differnt artitst.
I remeber doing that to a copy of a friends VAN Halen 1984, carefully geting the cassette apart. surgically removing the spindles and carefully putting Karen Carpenters greatest hits.

I used to splice the tape on cassettes when I recorded one that had a lot of blank space left. I would just cut out all the blank tape and then put it all back together. Sometimes it ruined the tape. Sometimes it didn't.

There goes the value of that dvd player
Behshad wrote:conversationpc wrote:Behshad wrote:conversationpc wrote:Behshad wrote:Europe - Wings Of Tomorrow
Interesting selection...I like it better than "The Final Countdown".
same here.
Better songs. More guitars. And not "overproduced" like TFC. Raw , heavy Rock&Roll. I Think even their debut album was better than TFC.
The debut still had a touch of their progressive roots, which I also like, although I don't think the songwriting was quite as good.
very true. That's why I like "Start From The Dark " a lot. Great songwritting , but more prog/hardrock than their TFC-stuff.
Another cassette I wore out was "Odyssey" by Malmsteen. All 12 tracks are great if you ask me.
