April Fools Joke - Not Funny

Postby SP Fan in Oregon » Fri Apr 02, 2010 10:37 am

CPC Live posted on twitter today that Steve Perry would be making a "guest appearance" at Lincoln Brewster's show in Foster City, CA
on April 16th. Now they are retracting their announcement as an "April Fool's Day Prank." They are offering refunds on their tickets
that were sold AFTER the twitter announcement, stating, "If you purchased your Lincoln Brewster tickets thinking that Steve Perry was going to sing with Lincoln
we can offer you a refund for your ticket if you wish.".

I wonder if they are giving refunds for the many non-refundable airline tickets that were likely also purchased? There are April Fools pranks and then there are actionable misrepresentations. This announcement was the later. What a way to boost ticket sales. I don't think Lincoln Brewster really needs that kind of promotion, and the actions
of CPC Live should not reflect on Lincoln in any way. I personally think it wasn't a "prank" but more likely they got "the call" from Perry's
lawyers and came up with a plan to save themselves as best they could. In any case, the whole thing was NOT funny.

I'm thankful that I'm taking my mom to Washington D.C. begining that day, so I didn't fall victim to such a scam.
There must have been a flood of ticket sales for the show shortly after the twitter announcement this morning.

I saw that. It certainly took them long enough to take it down.

By what ... 6 tickets by women who would take up 4 rows? No one's interested in a washed up singer that's gone and forgotten, as far as singing live is concerned.

The only "flood" was in the bloomers of a few haggard women that consider unwrapping a box of 20 Ho Ho's exercise. And I'm sure the Hostess shelves were bare following the news that it was a prank. I like the publicity stunts to keep him in the news, though. Orchestrated, but still cool.

I am not saying I agree with SPFIO's take on this prank but that is actually pretty lame, and NOT something you attach to an established saleable item, in this case tickets to a show.

Some pranks are funny, some cause issues. This is the latter and it was stupid.

and to think... if the guy had a web site and communicated with his fans on a regular basis, all the hassle could've been avoided.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Are they "Ding Dongs" or ..."King Dons"?

That's always puzzled me...

My wife Debbie, my daughter Brooke, her boyfriend Stan, our niece Neelee and I attended a birthday party last night at the Abuelos's Mexican restaurant in Hurst, Texas. Yep, the birthday boy/man, who is our neighbor, was born on April Fools Day. I'll bet he's got stories... anyway... My daughter tried to pull one off on me and put her ring, which she always wears on her third finger on her right hand, on her third finger on her left hand and tried to make me believe that her boyfriend proposed to her. I looked at the ring and then looked at her and just shook my head. I knew what she was up to. She was busted. But I nodded toward my wife Debbie who was sitting right next to my daughter to suggest trying the prank on her. Well poor Debbie bought it hook, line and sinker. She grabbed Brooke, and hugged her, started crying and congratulating, because all of us just love Stan to death. It was tough to drop the bomb on her, and even after we did, it took her another 5 minutes to stop crying. Was an excellent prank, but I felt bad for Debbie.

Best April Fools pranks can happen on the radio. I came up with a funny one a few years ago, when one day BEFORE April 1, all the DJs announced that "today we are hosting our shows completely naked." We said we hired a photographer to take pics of us in the studio and the set of shots was going to be the prize that we'd give away the next day to the listener who will answer correctly to a set of question. One question every hour, from 10 am to 10 pm. The ratings went SKY high and the list of people who qualified for the prize was the lenght of Mississippi.haha
We managed to fool everyone because we started the prank one day before, so no one suspected. The next day, on April 1st, the computer picked the winner; we got him live on the phone and asked him to look at the date in the calendar. You can imagine the laughter and all...

We gave him a prize though - a t-shirt that was saying: "If you don't listen to our station, you're a fool."
