Fish of a LIFETIME!`

I love to fish...its my passion and my hobby.

Today I caught a fish of a lifetime.

A 50 inch class Musky.

She's a bit beat up as the just got done spawning, but WOW...I am still shaking.

I'm guessing that's a fresh water fish, yes? Can't eat it raw if it's fresh water, but if it's a salt water fish.....that would be a lot of sushi. Can you fish for these during spawning season? Some game fish like Salmon I think you can't just so the fish has a chance to do its thing so we have more of them seasons down the road.

Did a little research on this particular fish and yes, it's a fresh water specimen, so it has absolutely nothing to worry about from me.....not on my menu as I only eat fish that can be safely eaten raw, has a low reproductive rate and fishermen are encouraged to practice "catch and release" when fishing for this specific fish.

I think they're mainly in the great lakes regions and rivers that way. Im guessing you don't really eat them At least I wouldn't

Yeah I let her go...I don't keep fish...especially magnificient animals like her.

In Pennsylvania there is no closed season on Musky, but you are only allowed to keep one per day over 40 inches, of course 99% of people who fish for Musky dont' keep them.

She was 50" long, but she only weighed about 30 lbs because she just got done spawning, by the fall she will be up over 45 lbs.

I always wanted to know this too... why throw them back when you've already hurt them?
That seems just mean, to harm an animal for sport and toss it back in... at least if you eat it, it serves a purpose...

Most avid fishermen are 'catch and release'. I was married to an avid fisher and very rarely did he keep one.........and that was just to cook up while camping once in a while. It's more of a recreational sport to them. Just take the hook out and release to be caught another day (or by another fisher). I just didn't have the patience for it, but then again I'm not one of the guys and downing a dozen beer while I wait. I'd much rather be hiking or catching some rays.

I can sit around downing beer without needing to do it on a boat with bugs around waiting for fishies. I would try fishing (if someone else would bait the hook for me - I do not touch bugs), but thus far I have not had the opportunity.

Catching rays and hiking - ahhhh that's my girl!! I really miss hiking. Used to do it a lot in AZ.
Illinois isn't exactly hiking country.

LOL, ya watching somebody rip a worm in half to use as bait didn't do it for me either. I'm a water baby, I'd MUCH rather be playing in the water than fishing in it.
