Agreed, they lost this fan back on Lost Highway, didn't like the tracks I heard........it was THE first album I didn't buy of theirs, probably won't buy The Circle either. Just don't like the direction they're going. LOVED These Days and Crush even had it's moments too, but This Left Feels Right totally sucked IMO and Lost Highway didn't grab me, save for a song or 2 maybe.
Although, surprisingly JBJ's vocals don't sound too bad on that song.

For what it's worth, The Circle is back to the rock sound of Bounce/Have a Nice Day as opposed to the country sound of Lost Highway. It may not be their best cd, but it is NOT country.
NP: Jimmy Barnes - Rage & Ruin....new cd that is back to the hard rock he's known for, though quite varied in tempo. Don't know how it will rank in the long term, but it's been far too long since he's done a proper rock album, and there are some definite contenders for song of the year on this one

I still love Bon Jovi.....I bought the Circle...it's not my favorite but I do like (not love) it.
I will say live they still bring it.
I love the fact that you have the boys together doing what they do best....I know some boys who could
learn from that!

Speaking of Jimmy Barnes, was looking at the Soul Deep and Soul Deeper cds the other day after you posted that Higher and Higher clip and in your opinion which one is better? I'm leaning towards the first one.

Soul Deep by FAR. Deeper was recorded during the drug period, and suffers heavily from it--including the fact that his voice is pretty shot from the cocaine abuse (he has recovered somewhat since going sober).Deb wrote:And was listening to HLS on the way to work, Hey Baby came on and I just cranked it, gawd I just love that guy's tone/delivery. have you found the I've Got Everything cd yet? Great stuff...

Yep, that's the cd I was listening to. Really dig Slamdunk too. And especially that first cd.

kgdjpubs wrote:What are your thoughts on Don't Leave from I've Got Everything? Love that one, and the Motown influence shines brightly there.
kgdjpubs wrote:Slamdunk is pretty good. Forever Ain't What It Used to Be is a monster, and one of his best vocals. I would have left Boys and Girls... off, but he didn't write that one.
kgdjpubs wrote:You really need to order the live album. The vibe is great, and he does some cool things with jamming and rocking out a few songs.

Love that one, great song. My Louisa is kind of a fun song too.

Agree on both point. Kinda like that crunchy Ain't That Love song too that starts the cd.

Was going to order it from the site but they don't do Paypal. And I can't be bothered to go to the bank and convert a Canadian money order to US. I only like to use Paypal if I order anything off the web.

If they meant early Bon Jovi, it sounded nothing like it except for a few poorly done ripoffs of other B.J. songs (like "Work For the Working Man" - redo of "Livin on a Prayer"). I only really liked the first song, but there wasn't anything special about it either -- it was just catchy. On a whole, people don't like this album. So if they can't write a good rock record anymore, what are they going to do? They won't go anywhere, though -- they've solidified their place by perpetually selling out. I believe they lost the ability to write a long time ago, though. Sure, some good songs here and there, but I think it would really take a good solid outside writer to help them deliver a great album.

I never saw anything about returning to the classic sound, although it may well have been said. All I heard was a return to a rock album--as opposed to the countryish direction of Lost Highway. In that respect, it is correct. The Circle is a rock album--not in the style that most people were expecting, and or want for that matter, but it is a rock album. The style doesn't bother me, but barring the odd exception, the songs don't stand out.
I think they have lost the fire for songwriting, but that's been my general feeling since hearing Crush. They don't put out many outright bad songs, just not much that stands out either.

Bon Jovi has been irrelevant, save for the concert going lunatics, since 1988's Slippery When Wet's 6 singles....since then I can count FOUR remotely good songs, Bed of Roses, It's my life, Have a nice Day...and my favorite post-SWW song...Love Me Back To Life. Jon has become Bruce. Singing about the plight of the everyman...in a word: Boring.

I'm not even too interested in listening to the new release if it's back in the country direction. If that's true, it says only one thing -- they are strictly following the money, and most of the money is in Country these days.

The new cd it is NOT country. Coldplay or U2-styled, maybe, but not country at all.

So you're saying it is strictly for the chicks?

Oh, wait -- I thought this new song was from a new studio album, but it's from a Greatest Hits package. Were you talking about The Circle? I just listened to the song and it's ok, but nothing fresh at all.

Ahh, gotcha. Whatever they have coming next, I'm just going to predict (based on this new song), that it will be listenable but extremely cliched. I think the perfect word to describe them:
cli·chéd also cli·ched (kl-shd)
adj.
Having become stale or commonplace through overuse; hackneyed

They are what they are....and well they had over 35,000 at the concert I attended.....and no it was not only
women...there were plenty of men...on their feet for the entire show...loving all of it.
So yes they have gone down the road of many types of music....but I think they actually get it....you need
to move with the times to make the real money....and well they have and ARE.
There was NO dirty dozen...yes there were some old faves...but the new stuff was as well receipted as the old stuff...so check
your attitude and glands at the door...if you don't like the band then fine.
But to say they are not relevant is a JOKE!!!
They are WAY more relevant than the Journey of today.
