New Doobie Brothers & Bachman & Turner albums...

Postby Ehwmatt » Wed Oct 20, 2010 12:57 am

Anybody heard these? Doobies' effort is called World Gone Crazy and Bachman Turner (NOT Overdrive...) is eponymously titled.

They're both fucking great. Classic sound, no frills, great classic 70s rock. 80s bands need to take note. This is how it's done. If you're a fan of good 70s classic rock (and I know a lot of you have absolutely wretched musical tastes, so just disregard this if you're one of those), pick both of these up.

Does April Wine have a new album? And I gotta admit, I don't really know any Nazareth besides Hair of the Dog. What are some good tracks/albums for Naz?

Yep, Fred Turner and Randy share vocal duties on the BT album, just as they always did.

Nah, April Wine's last was '06 and not sure when Nazareth last put something out, but their greatest hits album still gets tons of play. I meant more on....still out there playing live, both have played here in the last couple years. April Wine definitely kicked my ass, GREAT show, they have so many hits!

Bachman & Turner album is fantastic, it literally sounds like it was released in the 70's.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpcE4_VwunA

"That What It Is" sounds like classic BTO.

I haven't picked up the Doobies yet, but it is on my list, I have heard nothing but good things.

That's What It Is rocks too. Love that double tracked acoustic underneath the heavy electric. Get that Doobie Bros album quick - it's just as good as BT

That I'll agree with, wasn't keen on the last one either. :) But gawd they had some great tunes........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEgOh_RvX5w

And Myles still sounds great live, granted he can't hit some of his super highs from the 70s, but he still sounds damn good.

Have the Doobs and enjoying it. Nice mix of songs. Having a Doob (song) with Willie is interesting.

I hated the turn the Doobies took when McDonald joined the band, but it is kind of cool hearing him with them again.

Johnston scares me in concert. Looks like he'll hop down and kick your ass if you're not up having fun and getting into his music.

I really dig this track, there really isn't a dud on the entire album.

I picked up the Doobie's album today, after just one listen I am hooked, may be up for album of the year of my collection.

I also have Steve Lukather's album on it's way, can't wait to hear what Luke has put together.

Great pics as always.

I failed to mention the musicianship and vocals are top notch in concert. I've never been disappointed.

 Love the song but that video cracks me up. It is sooo 70s, LOL everybody in the audience and for that matter the band, looks baked out of their skulls.  LOL kinda reminds me of an old Chicago Soundstage clip of Journey's too.

And for some reason every time I hear this song I ended up getting that line stuck in my head and singing it the rest of the day....... "I'm drinkin' sweet champagne, got the headphones up high, can't drum you out of my mind. They're singin'-"Goodbye baby, baby bye-bye...."

Another fave of theirs is Holy Roller, love that one.

Wow - Bachman & Turner just rocked the half-time show at the Grey Cup (our Canuck 'version' of the Superbowl, for you Yanks  ). I tell you, for a couple of 67 year-olds, they sounded pretty fine. I'll post some video tomorrow if I get a chance. And I love their new album!

Related note - these guys sang the national anthem. I've heard of them but never really listened to their music. Went searching, and I'm really liking their sound too.
