Because he had to tour that way. I'm quite sure that a guy that was willing to get paid for not working would have also taken and toured with the name ... if he could have.

And Neal has been touring and playing (and rerecording) for 12 years now...it's just as baffling that he doesn't let things go.

Hey, man, Neal made that music, too. As did Jon and Ross. They don't have to bury those songs because one member's instrument is missing. And that member has an open invitation to perform at any time.

I don't disagree, and again, nobody's asked them to bury songs...more power to them for keeping the songs alive! Just let the past be the past. Everyone's moved on, right? Neal doesn't come off that way with the half-assed comments.

It is evident here that it is hard for the fans to let the past be the past. Now imagine if you were actually one of the band members and lived through this. Some members are able to keep their mouth shut on this stuff, others (Neal) apparently can't.

It's funny when you realize that Mick has to be the better man here. Trying to promote the tour and keep everything positive while Schon has to go the other way, even if it's a small dig. I'm really starting to think that Neal isn't happy with this package deal and was hoping for Journey to play these venues by themselves. I think he really bought in to the hype surrounding DSB in the UK. What he is missing though is all that excitement was last summer and now it has ebbed tremendously. That award he took home the other night was from previous months of voting, not something that is happening right now.
He seemed more happy talking about what kind of guitar he is using more than anything else.
Even Bon Jovi needed Kid Rock for those 15 shows at O2. Journey can't go it alone at these venues and that is just a fact so just be happy with the arrangement Irving has made and go with it. The fans over there think they are getting a great deal with Journey and Foreigner playing together and that should be all that matters.

I don't think that was it. I think the Perry/DSB ballgame thing got under his skin as evidenced from his facebook post (though, I don't understand why), and he addressed the breakup again with that small dig in it. It was all close in time. Neal needs Lori back in his life. She was the calming influence on him.

You don't have enough time. Perry is yet "once again" excited about music, and a ballgame "saved him in some ways." Perry needs all your attention, trying to analyze him.

This is a great post. I agree 100% that Schon got overly optimistic in his bands' "success" and I really do think Schon thinks Journey alone can sell out arenas like O2. Um, dude, only a handful of acts can sell that place out by themselves and you aren't one of them. Like Donald said, Bon Jovi needed Kid Rock to help sell those 15 shows(although I am sure Bon Jovi could sell it out a few times on their own)....Bruce can sell it out a few times as well as U2.

Also though, I don't blame Schon for feeling underwhelmed with this package deal. I wouldn't want three bands on the bill either. It sucks all the way around, for everyone concerned. Shortened playing time for the bands and shortened and cheapened sets for the fans. I would think adding Styx OR Foreigner was overkill. I would also like to think a two headed monster would be adequate. If you need three acts to sell seats, there is something wrong.

Being a pkg deal isn't what is so underwhelming.
The parts that make up the pkg are what is underwhelming, IMO.

Why keep touring with all these other nostalgia-type acts???
Why not work hard to get a pkg deal with some contemporary acts
like Alter Bridge, Chickenfoot, Shinedown, Anberlin...
Just to name a few...

hell, if you're gonna spend all this time writing new music
and trying hard to give people something "different" from
the usual J-album, why not try hard to "market" it to younger
audiences???
Welcome to Terminus... You hungry?

That's just it Carl....they aren't going to be releasing anything of real interest to the loyal fan or the "devoted" fan. They will mass produce the same old shit they have always done, and can do in their sleep, and slap a different title on the song. They really have not proved they can write as good as they did back in the classic years and the absence of Perry may in fact be the reason for that. I can tell you right now Pineda has brought absolutely nothing to the songwriting process. He still hasn't written a single fucking song yet. Don't look for that to change with the release of this new album. Sure, he may have a part in one or two of them, but he won't be a sole writer on any of them.

I was rambling there, but my main point was Journey is not at all interested in bringing any new fans into their world. Just put on a concert full of the classics and they know they will draw X number of people. They aren't progressive thinkers...they think and play too safe. The problem with that is the safe way is eroding. People aren't going to pay 100 bucks to see the dirty dozen yet again. It gets old, it gets redundant. I honestly think they are creatively bankrupt. Maybe I will be proven wrong with this eastern Hindu crap they have planned, but if this is indeed the case, and they bring something like that out to the public, I will truly eat my words....but you know they won't stray too far away from the Journey formula safety zone....and you definitely know they sure as Hell aren't going to be playing anything from the new release when they are on the road with two other nostalgia acts. there will only be 80 minutes to play. I am guessing that the DD will take up what, 65-75 minutes? That leaves about 4-5 minutes left. good luck indoctrining your "new" music to the fans.

This tour package is a built in excuse for them to stay safe.

O2 has a capacity of 23,000. Journey are playing Wembley Arena which has a capacity of 12,000.

I wonder how bad Neal felt while pocketing money off those songs from the SP solo music when they were played as part of a Journey show...? :? Also, did Journey (the band) get any revenues from the solo tour if SP was singing Journey's songs? Obviously it's chump change compared to what SP has made since leaving the band, but... inquiring minds wanna know.

When people perform music by others live, the fees are already covered by the venue, who pay a generic licensing fee to ASCAP/BMI/SECAM. that covers the majority of music that might be played in their establishment. That's why tribute bands are legal as long as they are not recording their shows for sales, in which case they would have to pay royaties to the songwriters. As long as no one is selling the performance on media, everything is legit.

Ah, thanks! So why is Neal pissed that every time they go on the road, SP "gets paid like a motherfucker"? It's not so much that they are singing songs that he helped create, it's more of a contract agreement during the split? Yes, I'm showing my ignorance I know...

Because the agreement he and Cain agreed to is alleged to have alloted Steve a portion of tour revenue (ticket, merchandice?) that the band would make over 9 years, as if he was still in the band, touring with them. This is just speculation but the way Neal goes on, it must have been close to the truth. That period is supposed to be over now, and as I have said many times before, they all agreed to it. The band didn't want to go to court so no use in them crying about it.

Any agreement seems to have expired for the most part if anything I have read is true.

Also, did Journey (the band) get any revenues from the solo tour if SP was singing Journey's songs? Obviously it's chump change compared to what SP has made since leaving the band, but... inquiring minds wanna know.

I'm quite sure Schon wasn't happy playing that piece of shit "Oh Sherrie"......

I would think Neal enjoyed playing Don't Fight It. Neil Giraldo is a top notch guitarist so that was probably fun for him.

Because he had to tour that way. I'm quite sure that a guy that was willing to get paid for not working would have also taken and toured with the name ... if he could have.

And Neal has been touring and playing (and rerecording) for 12 years now...it's just as baffling that he doesn't let things go.

I think the difference between what Perry did and what Neal/current Journey are doing is that Perry went out as "Steve Perry"...not "Journey" and not "Steve Perry's Journey"....he sang the songs he was famous for, but under his own name.

I think The Storm played some Journey songs live, didn't they? But they called themslves "The Storm", not "Journey".

Had Schon & Cain landed Chalfant (or Augeri or whoever) and wrote new songs and toured under a different name, they could have played all the Journey songs they wanted live (songs they were famous for) and everything would have been fine.
