It is evident here that it is hard for the fans to let the past be the past. Now imagine if you were actually one of the band members and lived through this. Some members are able to keep their mouth shut on this stuff, others (Neal) apparently can't.

This is a great post. I agree 100% that Schon got overly optimistic in his bands' "success" and I really do think Schon thinks Journey alone can sell out arenas like O2. Um, dude, only a handful of acts can sell that place out by themselves and you aren't one of them. Like Donald said, Bon Jovi needed Kid Rock to help sell those 15 shows(although I am sure Bon Jovi could sell it out a few times on their own)....Bruce can sell it out a few times as well as U2.

Also though, I don't blame Schon for feeling underwhelmed with this package deal. I wouldn't want three bands on the bill either. It sucks all the way around, for everyone concerned. Shortened playing time for the bands and shortened and cheapened sets for the fans. I would think adding Styx OR Foreigner was overkill. I would also like to think a two headed monster would be adequate. If you need three acts to sell seats, there is something wrong.

That's just it Carl....they aren't going to be releasing anything of real interest to the loyal fan or the "devoted" fan. They will mass produce the same old shit they have always done, and can do in their sleep, and slap a different title on the song. They really have not proved they can write as good as they did back in the classic years and the absence of Perry may in fact be the reason for that. I can tell you right now Pineda has brought absolutely nothing to the songwriting process. He still hasn't written a single fucking song yet. Don't look for that to change with the release of this new album. Sure, he may have a part in one or two of them, but he won't be a sole writer on any of them.

I was rambling there, but my main point was Journey is not at all interested in bringing any new fans into their world. Just put on a concert full of the classics and they know they will draw X number of people. They aren't progressive thinkers...they think and play too safe. The problem with that is the safe way is eroding. People aren't going to pay 100 bucks to see the dirty dozen yet again. It gets old, it gets redundant. I honestly think they are creatively bankrupt. Maybe I will be proven wrong with this eastern Hindu crap they have planned, but if this is indeed the case, and they bring something like that out to the public, I will truly eat my words....but you know they won't stray too far away from the Journey formula safety zone....and you definitely know they sure as Hell aren't going to be playing anything from the new release when they are on the road with two other nostalgia acts. there will only be 80 minutes to play. I am guessing that the DD will take up what, 65-75 minutes? That leaves about 4-5 minutes left. good luck indoctrining your "new" music to the fans.

This tour package is a built in excuse for them to stay safe.

I think the difference between what Perry did and what Neal/current Journey are doing is that Perry went out as "Steve Perry"...not "Journey" and not "Steve Perry's Journey"....he sang the songs he was famous for, but under his own name.

I think The Storm played some Journey songs live, didn't they? But they called themslves "The Storm", not "Journey".

Had Schon & Cain landed Chalfant (or Augeri or whoever) and wrote new songs and toured under a different name, they could have played all the Journey songs they wanted live (songs they were famous for) and everything would have been fine.
