Elizabeth Edwards Has Passed Away

Postby Jana » Wed Dec 08, 2010 8:51 am

She handled herself with so much dignity this past year. So much to bear while facing a terminal illness. A lot of grace shown.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/0 ... 93416.html

On Monday, it was reported that cancer had spread to Edwards's liver. On the same day she wrote a Facebook note to friends and family:

You all know that I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces -- my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope. These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined. The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And yes, there are certainly times when we aren't able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It's called being human. But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful. It isn't possible to put into words the love and gratitude I feel towards everyone who has and continues to support and inspire me every day. To you I simply say: you know.

Amen. Even more than the cheating and baby, which is awful, it makes me sick that he didn't make her feel it was a blip in their long life together and that she was his true love and most important woman in the world during this finite time she had left on earth. Instead, he was so untrustworthy that at a certain point her family said she had to separate because she couldn't take it anymore. It made me sad when she said in an interview a while back something to the effect that she hated the thought of not being held at night by someone you love during the last months of her life and during this fight for her life. She said she had her children's love and that was important, but the other was different. I knew what she meant I know how important my father was to my mom during her fight for cancer and how close they were. The least he could have done was do that, but he's too narcissistic.

SHE embodies what a true role-model is for young American women. Smart, tough, no-nonsense, walked through her own hell & back but didn't so much as singe her wings... and did everything with a gracious countenance & a smile. I've always admired her strength of will & embodiment of character. She just got it.

Rest in paradise, Elizabeth.

I was so fracking disappointed in John I can hardly think about it. I was really rooting for him to be the Democratic candidate--if he hadn't effed up so bad he would have made a good president I think. As badly as he derailed he and Elizabeth had a lot of history so I can see why he was with her. I imagine he is pretty broken up about her death. I was thinking about him today too and how I suppose a shallow man in spite of all their wealth, brains, ambition, age, power, stability, etc., will throw it all away over illicit sex (I was tempted to say a blonde bimbo but that is derogatory). It's amazing the power women have over men...

Elizabeth Edwards always seemed she wished to believe in what she wanted to believe and no one could make her believe anything different. It seemed she willed herself to survive a bit longer then most people who lived with this wretched illness. She stayed by her unfaithful husband's side longer then most would have. I think she believed in the goodness of her marriage until he made her see what a narcissistic husband he was. It was as if she refused to see him other than the handsome Prince Charming she visualized in her head. Sometimes it is the pains of life which draw life from our souls and burdens us with such sorrow that we can not linger here anymore. It's like looking for a rainbow and being enthralled with the majestic beauty even though it is raining. I think no matter the obstacle or the problem or the illness or the pain; Elizabeth Edwards always looked for strength from God or some higher being from which to justify her persistence and reasoning to stay by her cheating husband's side. There's nothing wrong with admiring rainbows as long as you realize you don't have to stand there in the rain.

The hard thing for Elizabeth leaving her little ones behind was probably the fear that "that woman" will be in their life as a stepmother. Especially hard to deal with considering that interview Rielle gave, while Elizabeth was terminally ill, saying derogatory things about Elizabeth and talking about her "Johnny." I can't imagine having that weighing on you as a mother, that this disrespectul flake would be helping to raise your children when you're gone.

You have to wonder how much stress contributed to her illness after what he put her through.
I'm sure she knew they would give her something to help her go today and it was very gracious of her to share a message.
She was brave.

Holy smokes, I didn't realize that woman gave an interview like that. That is disgraceful. I hope that E and John made some kind of deal. I feel especially bad for their oldest daughter. So tragic for Elizabeth and all so unnecessary; am going to keep her in my prayers.

Regardless of what went down between Elizabeth and her estranged husband, I’m sure they made their peace.
The fact is, he is the father of her children and, except for each other, all they have left. I’m sure she made
her desires for the futures of her children very clear …if ever there were a time for him to make amends, this
would be it!! I’m of the belief that most women can forgive being fucked over, but fuck w/our children and you’re fucked!!
I hope he made her believe!!
RIP!!
