You make a fair point about police, fire, and military people. First of all, they are of course successful people who deserve to be commended far more than they are for the dangerous and unappreciated jobs they do. But, they really are in a class all their own. In the general "corporate" professional world or political world, tattoos simply aren't socially acceptable.
Because the business world is full of a bunch of rich stuffy close minded geeky suits. That's why I never had an interest at all in the business world and went into the health field. It just sounds boring. I would not recommend any of my kids get tatts. They definitely won't under age. But if they do I'm not going to cry that now they have no chance for success. It's just not true. I worry more about my sons shitty grades right now and his success level than if he got a tat when he's 21! My husband and I don't have them. But I'd never judge anyone I know who does as unsuccessful or trashy. You have any friends with tatts? Do you feel this way about them?

Lots of people in America with the current entitlement and jealousy mentality pervasive would think that very thing.

S2M wrote:If you think that way, Matt, I feel sorry for you. and I don't really give a fuck if it your opinion, or not....

It's asinine to pretend that I'm espousing some kind of minority opinion here. And please, don't pity me, I don't need any  Tats aren't socially acceptable, period. Ink away if you wish. I just don't understand it. If that's not true, then why would anyone with tats feel the need to cover them in a formal situation?

Read my post above. You'd have to define success. Many people with tatts earn close to or over 6 figures even. If people have jobs, are supporting their families monitarily, providing for them, loving them, raising them to be good people..that to me is success. Many tattooed people are and have done this.

Defeats no purpose. They have to "play the game" at work. They don't have to hide them at home in their personal lives. How many of us have habits or things we enjoy outside of work we might hide at work? I bet lots of people have something :P  I figure it harms no one, so who cares. I don't get it either, cause I dont want needles stuck in me on purpose, but to each his own.

It does defeat their purpose. Considering that they probably got it to show it off , yet their pretty much forces to hide it 90% of the time , then it's a waste of time/money/skin/ink.
Now , if you're talking about the prisoners , they totally get their money worth , since the can and do show theirs off 99% of the time ;)

It's not about the successful people being wrong for wanting to get tatoos , it's about the unwritten rules they have to follow. Which results in less and less successful people getting tatts, which proves Matts post.
I bet you , your boyfriend PeePee wouldn't get a tattoo on his softly lotioned urinbathed skin

HATE the TATS.... but thats just my taste... It doesnt matter that you have them...just not a big fan of them... anything pierced is the same way, especially eyes, noses and mouths, tongues... to me that just looks painful...

It's not a waste if they enjoy it in the privacy of their home. Not everyone works 100 hours+ a week. There is plenty of time to show them off. Bikers for instance. You'd be SHOCKED at how many bikers are successful business men. And many have tattoos. So at work they hide them under long sleeved shirts, but when they do their biker stuff on weekends, they get to show them off. I don't get why anyone cares that much. It's just an ink mark.

But you LIVE in the boon docks!!! How can too many people be "upper classed" successful living there?? There aren't jobs there for that. The ones who get college degrees move to the cities where the jobs are. You know that highly paying jobs are few in rural areas. That doesn't prove anything really. Plus, I say again. Define success. If you can feed your family, put a roof over their head, and live a happy life, why can't you do that as a garbage collector with tatts, and be considered successful?? I don't measure success like you people apparently.
