Criminal or no criminal, I like the fact that he hasn't attempted one bit to hide any of it. He has been very up front and has admitted all of it. He also said that none of the crimes were ever violent.

Yes, but your friend made a decision to flip his life around, and that's great that he did. This guy was "handed" something and it was not on his own doing that he just decided "hey Im going to flip my life around." I hope you're right, but don't think because someone "sounds" honest they are. There are LOTS of "nice sounding" criminals  Some even DRESS nice!! I think some people need to do some police ride alongs!

Maybe not violent, but you know, stealing from people doesn't make it more forgivable to me. Stealing causes huge headaches for people. It's not a slap on the hand crime when someone is doing it for 20 years. Drugs or not, he put himself there. I don't feel sorry for the life he lead at all. And of COURSE he's open!!!! HELLOOOO!! The smoking gun showed his rap sheet!! How could he deny it??? :?:

Pretty shocked at the way people are marginalizing property crimes like theft and ROBBERY (forcible theft). Serious property crimes carry very high human costs and are reprehensible. Sure, they aren't on the same level as murder or rape, but repeat burglars/robbers are the scum of the earth. Amazing how some will marginalize an unbelievably serious criminal act just because no one got "hurt."

I know!!  I honestly think that it must be "some" human's nature to want a feel good story we can all get happy warm feelings with to make our day feel better or something. I don't personally need that I guess. Nice we have so many eternal optimists on the board though ;)

Exactly, lol. Kind of like the cop-killer here who served 7 of his 10 year sentence for multiple crimes, got out early, went RIGHT back to stealing other people's property, and when he gets pulled over what does he do? Shoots the cop in the head twice at point blank range. A young newlywed cop only in his 20's who had already served in the Marines overseas and survived that, only to come home and be shot DEAD right here at home. By some scumbag piece of sh*t who didn't want to go back to jail even though he deserved to. Yeah 7 years in prison really turned him around  :x

THANKFULLY the cop-killing scumbag turned the gun on himself too, and at least was successful. Too bad it couldn't have been an entire SWAT team taking him out though. Coward.

Living in that much of an optimistic oblivion must be nice though, lol.

Agreed.
I've, too, known people that managed to completely give up a bad lifestyle ( addiction, theft, etc) and become worthy of respect. Not many bad guys hit rock bottom, but those who really do will find the power to turn their lives around.

I actually do wish the guy well, and hopefully all the optimism will pan out and he really does turn around. I don't think some people realize how HARD that is though for someone who made crimes like that a lifestyle for 20 years. You just don't turn 20 years around overnight. I don't think anyone could. But hey if he does, good for him.

When I first heard this story, I thought of three things:

1) Wow, this is so cool that this could happen for this guy.
2) Bet it's some kind of orchestrated publicity stunt, in other words, not real. (this has yet to be proven)
3) If it's legit, bet that the media will kind of tear him apart after the whole "Isn't that special" thing wears off.

Sounds like 1 and 3 are applicable. Number 2 is still a definite possibility.

I just saw his mom on tv. 90 years old. She said SHE is skeptical that he can turn himself around. That he is weak and not a strong person like her. She blamed other people and his friends. She was happy too though, hoping he can and that she's living to see it. I really think this is way more complicated than some cool feel good story. He's being exploited now. Too famous. And it's not going to help him I dont think. We'll see, but people don't change just because someone plucked them off the street. It comes from within. Our media never ceases to amaze and annoy me

Well, it looks like Teddy Dirtball has been hired by Kraft Foods to do commercials for Macaroni and Cheese. I am officially boycotting Kraft products. No way would anyone ever think of hiring a guy with a 20 year rap sheet. "Ted, minus the stellar rap sheet, the lack of W-2's and the incredible stench coming out of virtually every pore in your body, what makes you the ideal candidate for this job?" This is very disturbing. Compromising corporate ethics (if there is such a thing! ) to sign the Johnny-Come-Lately in the sensationalized world of "reality" garbage. I really hope he robs and/or attacks someone. Preferably the person that hired him.

As annoyed as this makes me, boycotting kraft isn't really something very easy. They own a LOT of food and other food companies, things you'd never even imagine. It wouldn't be easy to truly boycott them. They own nabisco, Maxwell house, Oscar meyer as well as other big companies.

Here you go again ... being mean and ruining my boycott before I was even able to start it!!! :x

Well you just have to understand! I can't even THINK about boycotting my peppermint Oreos for that man! Or the chocolate I like that happens to be owned by Kraft!! How would I survive??

Pal up with one the fucking Euros on this board and start buying the good, imported chocolate! You could trade good chocolate for deodorant!

Dan, THAT IS my favorite chocolate I am talking about!! Kraft owns Marabou chocolate (swedish chocolate) that I buy at IKEA and they also own Cadbury!!!

Well fuck me ... I'm out of ideas! Oh wait, no, I'm not! Start stealing all of your normally purchased Kraft products! Your husband's a cop so if you get caught he'll get you out of it anyway!  8)

 No!! I'd be the scandel of our small town!!! "cop's wife caught stealing oreos and chocolate... story at 11:00"  I'll just have to maybe boycott their mac and cheese!
