But it was already released to the media it's not like the school went to CNN and announced that he violated the honor code.

So should BYU cut it's athletic program?

My point is , a person's religion, should be his own private way of belief . He shouldnt be forced to follow some rules. Its his life, his mind and his way of living and thinking. Even if he commits to that religion as his way of living his life , no one should punish him if he "bends the rules" ,cause what he's doing isnt ILLEGAL,,,, its just he's way of living life, without being commited 100% to the religion.
So instead of kickin him out of the team maybe they should ban him from their church or multi-wives-get-togethers? ;)

It's a CHURCH school of course students need to abide by rules. There are lots of students that attend BYU that aren't Mormons but they are still required to abide by the honor code. They don't have to accept all of the doctrines of the church but they do have to follow the honor code set forth by the school.

And how many times do I have to tell you, Mormons do NOT practice polygamy.

Well , why is it that polygamy happens more in Utah than anywhere else??? I lived in Utah for couple years and while its a hush hush taboo talk in Salt Lake City, if you travel just 50 miles south of SLC , you will see many mansions owned by those who are mormons, who dont practice polygamy, yet they have more kids than a day care , with one wife for each day of the week ;) 8)

Because there are freaks that break off of the Mormon church and start their own religion and practice polygamy. Those practicing polygamy are NOT Mormons.

They haven't started their "own religion." They are Mormons. They're OLD SCHOOL, and probably still own the old editions of the Book Of Mormon that preach that nonwhite ethnicities are below the level of anglos.

No, they have their own religion. The Mormon church does not currently practice polygamy and they are against it and anyone practicing it can be excommunicated. There was a short time in the history of the church that they practiced polygamy and for a very specific reason, the practice was then discontinued and banned.

The only reason is to make more Mormons to generate more tithes to build more churches to infest the remainder of the landscape.

Then let's have it.

Because Mormons have more kids than Mexicans (and I can say that, being half — Mex, that is. NOT Mormon. )

Maybe Mormons do have more kids than Mexicans but that's just because they choose to. The Mormon church does not say to have a lot of kids and they are not opposed to birth control. (and I can say that being full-Mormon that is, NOT Mexican).

The reason is quite detailed-read about church history, the pioneers crossing the plains to Utah, etc. and you'll find your answer....

Okay, you're a Mormon. I was wondering.

I had a lot of dealings with a few LDS members because three family members entered the LDS church — two of them have since made a U-turn.

Unfortunately, said run-ins were less than pleasant.

And I disagree with what you say re: having kids. The notion I got from the LDS church is to get women of a certain age married off ASAP to start having kids (or throw them into their "mission").

I'm sorry you have had bad experiences. I have found that most of the bad experiences and perceptions people have of the Mormon church has more to do with the people than the actual church doctrine. Having lots of children is the perfect example. The church does not have any stand on how many children a family should have yet there are some Mormons that for some reason feel they are "better" Mormons because they have a lot of kids. Simply not true. The church just says have as many children as you can care for-for many people that is only two. And having as many as you can "care" for does not mean have as many as you can afford to pay for-although that's very important, you can have all the money in the world but very few people can really "care" for eight kids.

B, you KNOW I get all excited and love to go on and on and on when people ask what a midwife does.....but that would get this thread off track....watch for my next thread, I was just about to start one you may be interested in.
(and no, a midwife is not the second of three wives of a polygamist)

This will get me into trouble with the religious zealots, but this is simply another reason why I think that organized religion is at the core of what is wrong in this world. Seriously...these fucks want to run kids out of school if they drink coffee or tea! Bunch of bible-thumping dopes who need a fucking dope slap!

I suggest you read the Honor Code in its entirety(sp?) A good portion of the student body is LDS, and a portion of who that are not. The ones who are not know of this code beforehand and hopefully they have read it before going to BYU. The reasons as to why LDS do not drink coffee and tea I cannot say right now, because my foggy and very stressed brain can't recall the info at the moment. Smoking, drinking, and substance abuse are also forbidden too. (because they are toxic to the human body).

I believe that any violation, what ever it may be, will be dealt with appropriately, meaning some violations will have heavier consequences than others.

I say if you don't like BYU honor code policies, then don't go there. If you do, respect the honor code. It is like being in someone's home.

Listen Matt, I have had a very stressful day today. Things here are spinning a bit out of the control at the moment, and things aren't looking good here for quite awhile. Troubles with 14 year old daughter, among other things, have my mind really occupied at the moment. I could of went ballistic towards you because I am very stressed, but I didn't. I just explained why the info hasn't come to me. Sorry that I couldn't give you the info you needed to explain why the rule is the rule.

I have a meeting tonight at my ward church. I will ask why coffee and tea are forbidden. And when I get the answer, I will tell you. Deal?

lol ... the rule is put in place as a control measure. Religions recognize, and have for thousands of years, that people are soft in the fucking head and easily manipulated, and there are various ways of recruiting these dopes. It's either a "chosen people," some ridiculous 2,000 year old book of fables that someone wrote, or some set of rules that fool people into believing that they're living as God "wants" them to. Listen, assholes, if God "wanted" you to live a certain way, I'm quite sure he'd tell you him/herself. Unless, of course, he has T-Mobile.

Hey, how about this ... simply live your life and be a good person. Be guided by universal truths like kindness, love, justice and sharing, and make up your own rules. Practical rules .... rules that show you're a fucking leader and not a follower. Religion and its rules, especially organized garbage like being a fucking blue-balled male or cobwebbed-vag female Mormom, is an embarrassment to one's self. While there are far worse hobbies and wastes of time, there are also far better ones. Think for yourselves and be guided by your spirit, conscience and soul. But I guess that's just too much to ask of some people. They need everything spelled out for them. And that's okay, too, in some (albeit very few) instances.

My GUESS is that coffee and tea could be forbidden for the caffeine? Is that possible? Because I know when I worked in a 7th day adventist run hospital (not mormon) they weren't supposed to drink any caffeine, and they weren't even supposed to use pepper, because both are considered "stimulants".

Dan, did you ever stop to think that maybe it's BECAUSE I think for myself that I choose to be a Mormon? I am certainly not going to give all my reasons here but it is because I did thinking of my own that I remain an active member of the Mormon Church.

Caffeine is not forbidden, it is suggested to be used only in moderation but we are counseled to avoid coffee and tea. Pepper? Hmmm, interesting.
