Are you effing kidding me?![]()
I'd take his '94 vocals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TaSuWUdKCU any day of the week and 3 times on Sunday.......over Pineda's or damn near anybody elses. For me it's all about the tone and delivery, have never really cared about vocal range, and he has lost NONE of his unique delivery.

That video is such a poor, distorted quality of sound!!
To weigh in Steve on that standard of poor quality is
nonsense! Any Artist including Arnel Pineda would sound
terrible!![]()
I saw Steve on FTLOSM tour and he was so much more
mature emotionally, He moved with conviction of his
heart and made his moves in tune with his heart! His
voice reflected the embodiment of wisdom and soul,
much more captivating to me than the worn out
routines of the previous latter years with Journey!!
Steve toured on FTLOSM with the flu. Performing
with laryngitis and running around the country
singing when he should not have! I got that info
from a merch girl who sold me a letter jacket![]()
It could not have been a walk in the park to tour sick!!
Enjoy......

To be fair though, it's not like Arnel came into Journey having never sung live before. He did his fair share of gigging. While it may not have been as intense as a full blown tour with the catalog and the scale he has with Journey, per se... the environmental/situational stresses should count for something, too.
Not arguing with you so much as I am pointing out the bias in the chart. Chart itself is pretty cool, though.

Absolutely true... and the same could be said for Perry.... he was a singer before Journey as well.. and his band the Sullies was nearly signed... so pressure and gigs were no stranger to SP... in fact I'd call AP and SP's pre-Journey experiences a "draw"....
and by no means am I putting AP down... just calling out Dan on his idiotic statement...

lol ... I seem to remember he and Jon doing interviews with wine glasses in their hands, a ripped New Year's Eve tirade and it's pretty well rumored that he's been in AA for many, many years. Wonder why.But you go on believing what you want, pal. And I won't even mention Herbie's story about him extorting people's blow.

.right... you try and counter empirical data with..
1. Herbie - the man who just looooved Perry....
2. Interviews with wine glasses in their hands
3. "rumors" that he's been in AA for many, many years.
Weak.

And I'm assuming you believe that the dramatic change in his voice from Escape to frontiers was just natural, huh? Goof.
slucero wrote:Perry's vocal "change" It has more to do with the cumulative and natural wear and tear of having to sing ever more difficult Journey songs... 5 years, 529 gigs worth, in the original key... from 1977 to 1982.... than it has to do with your moronic, unproven allegations...

That's definitely a part of it, but I can't see it being the main reason he can't sing anymore. And it's certainly not the reason for the seemingly irreversible damage. Singing a lot just doesn't do that and rest would have brought about healing. Natural wear and tear? I just don't think so. And I suspect that's why Arnel's voice came back ... and his didn't.

Follow along, stupid. I said Arnel sings circles around Perry post-1986.
PS Pineda was doing 200+ gigs that lasted 3-5 hours per night in smokey rooms for about a decade and he's singing better than ever at almost 45. So stuff the excuses.

I guess the people who were there that talk about it and all of the clips going around the net are just all made up. Whatever.

His voice has far more miles on it than Perry's had before he quit and he's still singing as well as ever. Perhaps better. Just face the fact that the guy ran his voice into the ground by abusing it. I suspect that's why he has to put his head down on the console when he helps master the old shows. He blew it ... literally. And that's not to take away from the spectacular years and incredible contributions. But you have to take the bad with the good.
Saint John wrote:Ok, Slucero, let's agree to disagree and call it a day. But I'd like to clarify one thing. I never "compared" Perry post-1986 to current day Arnel. I merely made the observation, reasons aside, that Arnel is a better singer than Perry was at that point in time. Should I even go so gfar as to concede the point to you that we were debating, I still don't think it changes the fact that Perry's voice was in such a state that he couldn't sing the songs in their original key and had to completely cut out a good portion ... even though they were already a half step down. Doesn't that pretty much validate my point (reasons aside)?
