The finale is the same week of Eclipse's release. Imagine the new album having to compete with Journey's Greatest Hits, which would probably see a nice bump even further up the chart than it usually is already.

I doubt it. He is probably just here getting rehearsed up on some of the ROR songs that they haven't played in ages.

I'm pretty sure a few of those songs are assigned to Deen already. With shorter setlists because of the three band package and a concerted effort to play at least four songs fronm Eclipse, that doesn't leave much room for ROR songs to suddenly return to the stage.

It's a just a We'll See GB! (unless of course you have inside information). You're an analytics type guy, you explain the timing!!

I know a little while back, Randy made some comments about how he wouldn't mind coming back to Journey if Perry returned, though he didn't think it would happen unless Neal quit. Not exactly a thing you would say regarding a band you would want on the show.
We also know Perry was alreadyn asked to be on the show but declined. That leaves me with the impression that Journey isn't considered legit without Steve, at least according to the people at AI or to be more specific, Randy Jackson.

I can't believe you went for S7's BS!

OH OH!! Well it is basically what it is!! That still doesn't explain this timing for AP???

Don't you think they want to rehearse some more of the new songs with Arnel? Did you look at their schedule in the UK, they packed it pretty tight,

A 3 week rehearsal, now that absolutely does not make sense coming off the SA tour!!
So maybe it's just Arnel trying to establish a home for himself here in the US?? That just doesn't fit either!

Hey, you could be right and Journey could be on the Idol finale but the show has never let their finale guests openly pimp new releases, especially if it's not on the show's label (they switched to Universal Music this year). For the band to give the Sony Catalog free pub a day after their new album launches doesn't make sense to me.

OK...I'm confused, like I've said before the music business confuses the hell out of me. So DSB is basically Sony and so only Universal Music is allowed for the finale?? btw...is this the finale for AI?

OK...just still be a little confused here, In you best educated guess; could Journey appear on the show as an advisor (?) and actually sing new music??

The advisors are usually well known vocalists as it is American Idol, not a group competition. As far as singing new music, I would think not. The show is to promote the contestants, not the mentors. Only J-Lo gets to promote new stuff.

It would definitely be interesting to see Journey appear on Idol and certainly a great way to kick off promotion for Eclipse.

James wore the TAILS....and Randy said he paid homage to the One of the BEST voices in Rock....Steve Perry.
James did it justice! Good on him!
