He does have a point. Even the catchy tunes like Anything is Impossible never really arrive anywhere and when it ends you're like, that's it?
Are you guys for real? That's an amazing song and the most classic melodic Journey track of the whole album.

I like Tantra, but it requires a certain mood. It seems Disney-esque, or something like that....or meatloafish in places.

Good. They might get clogged up and prevent you from hearing anything more to complain about. Go play it again. Loud.

For the average Journey fan, yes it does. Not everyone is interested in change as the constant presence of the Dirty Dozen in each evening's setlist can attest to.
No offence to the 'average Journey fan', but screw the average Journey fan! I love dark and mood records and I love that guitar is all over this record and the song structures aren't predictable, nor familiar. Play an old Journey album if that's what you want. We don't need the same stuff over and over.
This album is bold and ballsy and I'm loving it....still...

I really think Someone is the song that holds that distinction.

I love it.Good to see Neal boldly push the band in a harder direction.I will definitely be buying this one.Glad that we don't have a lot of Cain influence on this one.Bet there were a few struggles between Jon and Neal over this harder influence on this album.

All I had to see is the color of the review. I 'knew' you were gonna rank it higher than W.E.T., or Whitesnake....![]()
Did your complimentary copy come with a tube sock, or petroleum jelly?

Considering I am a bit of a Disney fanatic, I suppose that might explain why I love the song so much.![]()

But personally, the best comparison I can think of, sonically at least, is something along the lines of Queen or as you said, Meat Loaf. Just that big "WAY OVER THE TOP" sort of sound Tantra has.![]()
Seriously, aside from pretty much most of the entire score of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, I can't think of anything Alan Menken ever cooked up that really had that sort of feeling.

Most of the magic on these songs happens way after the 2 minute mark, some after 3.
This is an amazing work and I'm still a bit stunned. I've been dissecting it for about 5 hours. It keeps getting better.
The problem with this album: It's deeper than the average Journey fan. Many won't get their head around it.
