I can totally picture that song in some animated film in a love scene or something!!!! Or being used at Disney World! And I don't know why, but each time, that is where my mind went!

If I remember correctly this is the song that had me wondering if they'd written it during a 72 hour bender of watching Planet Earth or Animal Planet.

Your review pretty much summed up my feelings after Andrews samples were posted.

My ECL1P53 Review

I was born and raised in South Detroit, but now part of me feels like I am from Manila. City of Hope, Edge of the Moment, and Chain of Love are monsters. What a way to start things off. Chain of Love has a darker and heavier groove to it than I expected. I love it. This is it. This is it.

Tantra is epic. This is Eclipse’s Still They Ride. I can’t help, but picture Steve Perry wishing he could sing this song. Resonate might have been a good fit for Frontiers. She’s A Mystery might not be a hard rocker, but it is so cool. This is what you do when you want to change things up. You can keep it cool all the while. This is it. This is it.

To Whom It May Concern is Arnel’s baby. If I am correct, this is the song that he wrote the most of. If this is true, Arnel is very talented in more than just singing. I think To Whom It May Concern sounds kind of like Styx. You have the main theme music part of the song that sounds like Styx and Arnel sounds kind of like Tommy Shaw. Perhaps if this Journey thing doesn’t work out, Arnel will join Styx next. Neal, don’t let him go! (That’s REO Speedwagon! Oh sorry!) This is it. This is it.

Someone jumps out at me for some reason. It reminds me of the Canadian Rock Band Triumph. It is sweet. This is it. This is it.

The theme of this concept album is love and peace and hope. But could there be a hidden message? Woven in many of the songs is the mysterious voice telling somebody to come back and reach for their dreams and share his voice with the world again. Could it be that the Eclipse is the person hiding their light under a basket? Let it shine, Perry! Let it shine! It might be funny that Arnel is singing for Perry to return. This is it. This is it.

The whole vibe of the album is awesome. It just works. While past albums since 1998 have had post Perry depression set in, this one doesn’t. This one just feels right from start to finish. It doesn’t feel forced and gimmicky. It fits like a glove. If Journey wasn’t my favorite rock and roll band already and if Eclipse was the only album I heard from this little band from San Francisco, they would be my favorite group. This has to be the best compliment I can make. This is it. This is it. This is what I have been waiting most of my life for, and now Journey has brought a smile to a city boy born and raised in South Detroit.

Although I find the album interesting in parts,I'm struggling to find something that i will want to listen to over and over(only tantra and AIP) will be something that has that replay value. After hearing the clips(amazon) I knew this was not going to be something I would run out and purchase right away, and oddly enough when Drew had his clips up, I went from possibly liking 3 songs to possibly liking 2  (I know i was a bit shocked myself). I'm still at 2 songs and think that the instrumental on the last cd is better.

I also agree with Beshad that there are parts of certain songs where Arnels voice doesn't seem to fit well, City of hopes chorus is good but the lead up to the chorus just leaves me not wanting to even wait to hear the chorus (strange and disappointing for a "journey" song)

I think its great they experimented, but maybe they experimented just a little too much.

Good reviews from both Journey/Survivor & yulog.

However, I don't understand on how the last album, Revelation, people stated that after listening to "Never Walk Away" that the band has become nostalgic and their lack of "creativity" has become very lazy and non-inspirational since it was a knock-off of "Be Good To Yourself."

Journey's Revelation sure did catch a lot of people by surprise but it sounded like a Journey album they've put out over their lifelong existence ever since the Perry-era kicked off. A Rocker-type, feel good anthems ever so slightly transforming into the next track of a ballad of a full range of emotion and guitar/piano rifts that subdue you only to spring you back up with another fast paced song on that very next track that mess's with your emotions like a roller-coaster. That's the nostalgic Journey sound.

The fans screamed for creativity, a year of absence from touring to work on an album that needs to be different with a fresh but now experienced new lead singer and not the same 'ol same 'ol but yet, they are now experimenting TOO much. I don't understand what the perfect 100% formula Journey needs to follow to really soar. I didn't listen to Eclipse yet so I can't really have an opinion just yet.

When Revelation came out, I opted to never break down and not listen to any demos or anything. Turns out, I caved and listened to them anyhow and knew what was coming from the day I purchased Revelation so nothing really caught me by a slightest of a surprise so I didn't enjoy it like I wanted to right out the gates.

This time, I made a pact to myself that I won't listen to any demo's and won't cave under the pressure of burned files being sent over and all of that stuff people made available too me. I did it this time and believe I will enjoy this album IMMENSELY compared to Revelation because quite frankly, I don't know what to expect & Eclipse seems like the perfect CD to play the unexpected card going in. Plus, there's something exciting for me waiting until the day of release date that makes it worth the while for me.

Tomorrow will be a good day 8)

Your resilience is impressive, but aren't you able to procure a copy? I got one earlier today at my Wal-Mart.

I was even tempted to check Wal-Mart today to snag a copy but my brother told me "Dude, I will guard all the copies of Eclipse from you if I have to..." so in my mind, the release date still remains as Tuesday, May 24th, 2011. I'm stubborn like that 8)

That's actually not a bad idea. Don't temp me, haha. If I didn't have school too early in the morn tomorrow I'd go for that but I'll be going after work tomorrow around 6:00 or so. I'll have my review by tomorrow night for sure. Can't wait. :!:

There's always some people who want journey to change things up ,but the other 90% know you shouldn't try to re- invent the wheel. NWA was just way too close to BGTYS, it should have never been released.( A mistake for sure) Then they re do faith in the heartland on the same cd  Basically 2 copies placed on a new cd makes people think ...maybe they have lost their creativity.

I think this new cd is compensating for some of the comments made when revelation came out. Journey = Major hooks, this cd compared to past cds by journey is almost Hookless so if people are looking for that(and they should be), they are going to be disappointed overall.

This was supposed to be in response to young journeys post, but something is going on when i use the quote function. The page keeps shooting up while i'm typing and I cant see what i have typed(annoying and time consuming ).

While I don't agree at all with the idea that Eclipse is hookless, I did raise this point in my review of City of Hope on the band's website:

'Eclipse' was said to venture into swaths of territory previously unexplored by Journey. Though the album certainly exceeded, 'City of Hope' is not a track that does so. Is it a good song? I'd say so, but it fails to capture the element of what Journey claimed to be exploring here. Despite what many may think, nothing new is offered here. The opening guitar riff was promising, but the structure has been heard before in 'Faith in the Heartland' from Generations and 'Never Walk Away' from Revelation. Opening guitar riff -> melodic solo over rhythm guitar -> singing -> chorus -> usual guitar interlude -> more singing -> another chorus -> solo -> chorus -> outro jam. Lyrically, though the song is very well written, it conveys a suspiciously similar message to FITH. Musically, it's well crafted, well played, and well sang, but it's just entirely too predictable. It is unfortunate in that it is the latest spin in a cycle that began in Generations, continued in Revelation, and makes a reprise here. Compared to truly epic and unconventional tracks like 'Edge of the Moment' or 'Resonate', this is something of a letdown.

Yeah Gid, I hear ya , there are hooks but compared to past albums I would have to say this album really doesnt have anywhere near the hooks that they have had on past albums, I honestly believe they did this on purpose, along with all the songs being 6 mins, there is a lot of meandering on this cd, a lot of changes in direction, some good some not so good.

Like i said , there's a lot of interesting stuff on this cd but there's also some hit or miss stuff on here that Journey fans are not going to be accustomed to, it was a gamble to do this , i guess we will see how it turns out.

I'm surprised no one has said what they think about the bonus track, "Peace And Love." The way it starts out you think it's gonna be a ballad. But then Neal goes into the heaviest damn riff I've ever head in my life. And the solo, fuck he tears it up on that solo!

Neal has been pulling a stunt for years. Once in a while, you will see his lips on the strings........not often.
Anyway, all those freaking pedals he uses on the stage......well, he's just triggering the guitar tracks in,
most of which, he has already played before, many, years before. He does this for his most loyal fans, namely Deano.
Dean loves a mime. Everybody knows this.

Just picked up my copy of "Eclipse" this morning. I had a jumpstart, though, thanks to someone on this forum, whom shall remain nameless. :D

Anyway, the packaging is total crap. I HATE the cardboard and the fact that the disk has to slide into it instead of clipping into place in a regular plastic case. That drives me insane. Enough of the cheap-ass cardboard already!

As for the album itself, my favorite track is "Resonate", followed closely by "City of Hope". Overall, there are four great songs, in my opinion, three above average, four so-so tracks, and one dud (Tantra).

After one listen through - I guess I don't understand what "riff" or "lick" means...because I think I'm hearing them all over the place?

I'll have a more detailed review later tonight or tomorrow.

But briefly for now, again is everyone sitting down, I hear an average album.

EOTM and COL save this album (with an assist from a few other songs) from being just a step or two above Generations.
I'm lmao because I don't believe you, yet!!
I do like that COL ...if that's the Chain song, not sure, yet, about the other!!

Well, I finally was able to find a copy this morning at my local Walmart,
and I have only been able to give it one listen trhough so far.

I know my opinion will probably change over the next few days.
However, my first impression is that this is a very interesting album.
"So much going on" is an understatement. I may get more in depth
with my thoughts at some point, but initial stand outs for me right from
the first listen are Resonate, She's A Mystery, Ritual, and Someone.
Tantra? i just don't get it yet... I think someone made a "Disney World"
reference somewhere in here in regards to the lyrics; I can see your point...

But I am very glad that I held off listening too closely to the live clips
awhile back. From what i did hear, they really didn't do this album justice,
and yuo really do have to listen to the final product to really hear whats going on.
Welcome to Terminus... You hungry?

I just picked it up a few hours ago. First impressions are very good, it is a rocker for sure. I was skeptical that it would be. Only 2-3 songs that I'm not crazy about. So far my favorites are Edge of the Moment and Chain of Love.
I finally see Neal's Aretha Franklin influence, but it is in the vocals. Chain-chain-chain of fools ring a bell?
