Arnel, sorry....he does nothing for the typical American women to be honest. He has a great voice and I know he's sweet and a great guy...
but I think this album would have been way better with someone else.

I don't know why but this made me laugh.

LOL, sometimes a little too much. Jeff gets a little too close and some woman took the words to Lovin, Touchin' Squeezin' a little too seriously, and grabbed his junk.

But it makes sense right? he's not flitting around and jumping all over the place like Arnel...that isn't sexxy.

Apparently a couple Irish women felt differently. (Warning, terrible sound, but see what happens)

I disagree. I would love to have had an album with JSS at the lead vocal spot, but not this one.

This album was definitely written for Arnels voice.

Same here. I was actually ready for a JSS Journey after seeing them in concert. This cd is a good showcase for AP. And this cd has made me a fan of his. I was unhappy witht the last cd (I wasn't bad) but AP was a let down, not on this one.
Still I could see JSS on this cd, a few things changed and it could well be suited for him.

Eclipse concept would be perfect for JSS and i believe that was the master plan for bringing him to the band since 2006, Schon must have wanted to make this kind of record but then the pressure from management to do a classic sounded album to monetize the DSB success made him and the band go to pineda and to Revelation style of songs.

However doesn't it seem weird that Eclipse fits to JSS voice and Revelation to Augeri's ? :P

Jeff is able to bring that Perry/Cooke rasp to the table and give the material more of a soulful feeling. But he wouldn't be able to make the songs soar in quite the same way.

Edit the Disney crap out of the start and end of tantra and you have an awesome song. I have a version I edited and it made the song one of my favs. That damn opening sounds like it belongs in the lion king. Once the song proper starts I love it so I took at crap out of the start and ending and you cant tell. It still sounds like a complete song with a proper fade out and is still 4:39.

Is this really such a deal breaker? I hear a dramatic piano solo seguing into an even more OTT melodramatic song. There's a few plink-plonk synth noises, but it's not enough for me to go upload the song into fucking pro-tools...

As soundtrack music for an animated feature, I believe I Stand Alone to be far superior. I don't need my kids singing along to any type of Hare Krishna chants.

I must say, though, it is still one of my favorites ...geez, I feel invincible
when I hear this song ... so it works!!

Vastly. Better musicians, better lyrics, and the voice is more or less on par.

You did get it. It's called W.E.T

Soto has a sound for his own, his voice just doesn't fit behind the Journey sound, Eclipse included. Everyone keeps saying this is edgier and rockier but that doesn't mean it was written for JSS's voice. It's "Journey-hard." The tenor in Arnel's voice makes Eclipse come full circle. With Arnel, it sounds like Journey. With JSS, it simply wouldn't.

Spot on, my friend. Spot on.
I love W.E.T. (it's more or less on par with Eclipse), but I think there are two different formulas at work. Ironically, it is Eclipse that sounds more modern and progressive. I don't think Jeff could have done as well on Eclipse vocally because of his inferior range, just as I don't think Arnel could have done as well as Jeff on W.E.T. because of his inferior command of the language.

I understand JSS is a fan favorite around here and he IS one helluva vocalist. I was fully ready to embrace him as lead singer of Journey when I had my doubts leading up to that point of him being announced. As time went on and after the Arnel hiring, looking back at that 2006 tour, it was JSS that sounded more karaoke than any other. His voice just never fit Journey and he sounded like a bar-act trying to sing Journey songs while Arnel does the classics MORE justice, Augeri included & that's not a knock on Soto.

That's putting it rather lightly.
Agreed on all counts. Great singer, great frontman, love W.E.T. and a select few of his other tracks and I was happy to see him with Journey in 2007 in Indianapolis. But Arnel floored me live whereas Jeff just did a pretty good job.

For the most part, Jeff's fans are entirely affable, reasonable, and open-minded. Beshad's a great example of this, though he sometimes cloaks it behind "LOL UR WRONG!!1!" (but I suspect that's mostly to piss you off, Steveo)
