Soto has a sound for his own, his voice just doesn't fit behind the Journey sound, Eclipse included. Everyone keeps saying this is edgier and rockier but that doesn't mean it was written for JSS's voice. It's "Journey-hard." the tenor in Arnel's voice makes Eclipse come full circle. With Arnel, it sounds like Journey. With JSS, it simply wouldn't. [/i]
Spot on, my friend. Spot on.
I love W.E.T. (it's more or less on par with
Eclipse), but I think there are two different formulas at work. Ironically, it is
Eclipse that sounds more modern and progressive. I don't think Jeff could have done as well on
Eclipse vocally because of his inferior range, just as I don't think Arnel could have done as well as Jeff on W.E.T. because of his inferior command of the language.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'
