Easy to say now, while your sitting at your desk, listening to it by yourself via the internet. What everyone forgets is that these were live performances in front of thousand of people. Although I didn't see this particular tour live, I know a ton of people who have and not one ever had a bad thing to say about Perry, the band, or the show itself. They were all caught up in the excitement of the show, and Perry came off as doing the same. Every person who I know who went to the ROR concert all said the same...great show, Perry was amazing. If there were 22,000 people at the show, there were 22,000 asses out of their seats partying and singing. Look at the live crowd in the GCHI video...nobody looks disappointed.
Just saying, take these live clips for what they were: live, energetic performances. Not for what they are now: fuzzy bootlegs streamed through computer speakers.

Fans of the band are fans of the band. But I agree, Art, as I went to a concert with Arnel and swore it was perfect ... only to get back, listen to some of the youtube clips and think, man, did I drink that much or is that the wrong show. But it was neither. It's just that crowd noise, my brutal singing and a few beers generally drown out any imperfections. Same with FTLOSM. I look back now and see some of those brutal youtubes and can't comprehend that that's how he sounded when I saw him. But he probably did. Doesn't matter, though, because I had an absolute blast!

And that's always been one of my biggest gripes about Steve Perry. The critics shat all over him and the rest of the band for years, if not decades. But now he seems unwilling to perform the farewell show or shows because of how these jackoffs may perceive him?!?! Fuck them! Do it for the fans. And save the perfectionist bullshit, too. Parts of the ROR tour, Againt The Wall, The Bill Graham debacle, FTLOSM and the general sound of the instruments on that tour prove he's anything but a perfectionist. That's a myth ... always has been. Relative to the other guys, I'd say he's a bit more discerning but not all that much. If you've got enough for a handful of shows, let it rip, Steve. No one that matters will be disappointed with the shows.

Something about him still feeling discomfort? I'm probably not quoting him exactly right, but I wished I knew more of this story. Maybe it would shed some light on why we haven't heard from him in awhile.

There were people crowing that Perry's singing at the White Sox victory celebration was absolutely flawless. There were Pinheads believing Arnel's Superbowl crooning was the second coming. Why should I believe what fans say when my ears tell me different?

I was there. Mountain Aire Festival in Angels Camp, CA. This was at the beginning of the ROR tour. Perry was in fine voice at this show and the crowd was absolutely lovin every minute. And this was after a day full of bands(Honeymoon Suite, The Outfield,Glass Tiger, Andy Taylor, etc.) in 90+degree weather. Saw them again at the Cow Palace in SF towards the end of the tour. Still a good show, but the fatigue in Perry's voice was evident on some songs. But don't get me wrong, still had a blast.

You'd think, but NO.

Arnel sounded great, but I really didn't dig Neal's solo.

I had to turn it off after Arnel's screeching at the beginning of that song. Blech!

Its quite possible that a degenerative bone condition didn't stop at one hip. Don't know, just sayin'.

There's no three shows in a row so it s not as many gigs as it first looks like. Something like 50 shows over 90 days. It's actually on par with the number of shows they performed in 2008 except back then they did run a lot of shows back to back.

He said that in 1986.

Actually, I think there are 3 shows in a row at some point, unless those shows have passed. I remember looking for that very thing.
