It's like being an Olympic athlete/Formula 1 Driver and having no fitness program and your diet is shakes, hamburgers, fries, Pizza, dope and booze.

Hitting high notes all the time for guys is murder. I am a natural soprano but if you sing high often enough it can really wreak havoc.

Get well soon Jeremy......warm tea, no booze, and lemon.

If true his voice gonna be toast, I remember Steve talking about how he took care of his voice, and he still lost the range.

Funny you mention the cigarettes. Frontiers played Wilmington a couple weeks ago. They sounded fantastic, but I did notice Jeremy smoking. Please quit. You gotta a great voice.

Maybe during his downtime, J can post his thoughts on Eclipse? Always liked reading his take on new material.

Jeremey hope you get better soon. Having this happen to you just drives home how horrible the Journey catalog really is on singers voices. Get well soon and get back out there.

Jeremey wrote:Thank you for the well wishes. I know I don't post here anymore, but I do come by a few times a week and follow the Journey discussions.

For me, most of the people here that I have grown to be friends with are on Facebook now and so it's easy to keep up with everyone there. But for those of you that aren't on FB and are interested in what's going on, I won't know anything until I get to the Dr on Monday.

My fear is that I hemorrhaged a vocal cord during the show last week...I had already been pretty gassed by doing 3-4 shows in a row with 2-3 days off for the past 2 months (I was at home for about 4 days total last month). The stress of being on the road so much and a few technical setbacks that we've had led to lack of sleep and rest, and increased smoking, and it really was just a perfect storm. I got hazed during the intro to "Message Of Love" last week, as someone had moved a haze machine during the set break and it was aimed directly at my face. After a verse or two I knew immediately that something had changed in my voice, but pushed through the show just the same.

After resting for about 4 days, I went in for soundcheck at Disney Saturday night and found out that nothing had gotten better. We had 7 nights in a row scheduled, and had to cancel after the second show.

I won't know the status of my voice or of any upcoming shows on our schedule until I get into my voice doc on Monday, so it's nearly impossible to say what is going to happen in the near future.

In the meantime I'm not speaking & not smoking, and just going to spend the weekend finishing details on the music side of my upcoming CD and maybe catch a few movies.

Thanks again to those of you who've expressed well wishes. Best to everyone, and have a great weekend.

Jeremey

Get well soon, man!

Thanks everyone. Barring a disaster at the ENT tomorrow the plan is to continue with the two shows we had scheduled for the weekend, and continuing voice rest on my off time. The schedule leading up to last week was a nightmare, though by Friday I will have been on 10 days of voice rest and I believe that performing two 90 minute shows is more important than the financial repercussions of canceling. Everything will be clearer tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for the positive vibes.

The doc at Duke Voice Center gave me the green light for this weekend. No damage to the vocal cords, in fact they still look pretty much the same as they did at my last exam in 2009.

When he heard about my schedule over the past 2 months he freaked out though. 3-4 shows back to back for 8 weeks, 2 hour shows with no set breaks, 8-10 hour drives between shows and being home for only hours a week really takes it's toll. Aside from the fatigue on my vocal cords, the injury I had thought occurred was a laryngospasm that sent my vocal cords into an arrhythmia, which meant that whenever I tried to sing they just flapped around out of sync, thus making me sound like an wispy voiced old woman. It took the time off to give them rest and get them back to doing their job...

Moving forward, we won't be able to maintain that kind of schedule, but it was a good wake up call. Hope to meet/see some of you at some upcoming shows!

I heard Dan has had that problem with some women in his past. Seriously though, good to hear. I always wondered how the fuck you didn't burn out knowing the type of schedule and traveling you guys do. See you September 30.

That damn catalog. Get better man. I have to say I would be scared of performing that fast after something like that. No matter the cause your cords are responding in a bad way. Be careful man.

No one, NOT ONE PERSON on this planet can sing the Journey catalog even 3 nights a week for just a couple of months and not have it affect their vocals. After years of doing it the damage can be permanent. Tenors do the most damage to their voices when they sing constantly. Listen to Perry now and compare him to John Farnham. Farnham hasn't toured extensively and has rested his voice and knows how to take care of it.

Here Farnham is at 54 still sounding freakin' incredible.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDI-f8NI1FE

I don't have anything with Perry singing live in 2003 and I think we all know why.

There's plenty of other tenors out there who've simply sang too much and now pay the price.
