I has given me yet another excuse to request a Steve Perry interview....which I have just done. No reply as yet
How's the Neal/Arnel interview coming along?

Deb wrote:'Sony and former lead vocalist Steve Perry chose the songs for the compilation with Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain offering no objections. As was the case with the original Greatest Hits, this set only covers the Steve Perry fronted Journey years.'
Also see in other news, Andy Taylor is going to have a new solo album soon too.

There is a space out there that needs to be filled and Eclipse isn't doing it so why not capitalize on it if you're Sony? Was it all that long ago when Perry sent feelers about releasing some of the older stuff like DVDs and what not? The GH has to be nearing saturation, having something else to throw out there which won't cost Sony really any money to promote (Escape is proving that) is just smart business.
I agree with this, save one thing. They should have pulled a live version of DSB with Perry singing and thrown it on there as a bonus track.
I think Jon and Neal would have objected. All they need is some DJ playing that version and starting a trend. The band seems to have enough identity issues as it is.

Allow me to expand on an earlier point by St John about Journey missing the mark on this album earlier in the thread...they should have included a yet UNRELEASED live version of DSB for the casual fan, and for the diehards include something on this I don't have as a reason to make the purchase. ...fuck, some here would lay down a few bucks for the sound of Perry's turds plopping into toilet water.

But see, the majority of the money Journey is making off of the diehards isn't coming from the Greatest Hits. They're coming from concert tickets and new music. The big jump of Greatest Hits sales are coming from those casual fans, new and old. So, it makes sense to capitalize on this and release a "part II" for those casual fans to be exposed to a little deeper look at the catalog.

Of course!... BUT, I won't be buying as I have all these tunes already. For me, give me even ONE thing new on this and I might consider a purchase. At least I'd place the disc in my hands and look it over. For others, including DSB on it might be the kicker into tossing it into their shopping carts at Wallyworld.
Honestly, do you think tracks #7 & #16 would be missed and might potentially bring in more revenue than a previously unreleased version of DSB and something from "the vault" (if one even exists)? If it's all about the $$$, the Journey camp missed out on a few dollars here.

Just like back in the 80's. Neil gets to release his solo record (Eclipse) and Perry could release HIS turd recording.
Bet you Perry's would outsell Eclipse.

If it's released under Sony, it just might. That's something I wouldn't even have imagined a year ago but the Eclipse launch practically lowered the bar into the fucking dirt as far as selling a product.

Journey was a juggernaut in the early and mid-80's. They were one of the top selling acts in the world, one of the most profitable and one of the most adored. Why? Talent and management with unmatched vision. But, right around 1986, a certain someone decided he knew what was best for the band and became the manager and new creative visionary. His subsequent maneuvers and keen management skills, coupled with what he thought was the new sound that fan wanted to hear, took *his* new band and solo projects, made 4 albums (ROR, ATW, FTLOSM and TBF) and they sold a combined 3.5 million records. Eclipse is no more of a flop than Against The Wall. How many did that fine effort sell? This band has been mostly in a tail spin since the hostile takeover circa 1986.
