Sony Music Australia is proud to announce the release of the new John Farnham album The Acoustic Chapel Sessions September 30th, 2011. This special CD+DVD will feature some of John's most loved songs. John Farnham recorded his new album The Acoustic Chapel Sessions in Melbourne in July 2011 at Chapel Off Chapel. The entire recording process was filmed resulting in a stunning CD+DVD package. The CD consists of eleven of John's classic songs stripped back and in acoustic mode, including 'Chain Reaction', 'Pressure Down', 'Age of Reason' and more.

The DVD package includes eight songs plus interviews with John and the band and behind-the-scenes footage. John Farnham said of The Acoustic Chapel Sessions "We wanted to rework some of the songs that we have been doing on stage for the last 25 years. It's always difficult to rework something that people are very used to, having said that we have had a lot of fun doing it".
Glenn Wheatley, Manager of John Farnham said "This recording has just given me goose bumps; it's amazing seeing the songs stripped right back and all acoustic. I wonder why we didn't think about doing this earlier."

The release of The Acoustic Chapel Sessions coincides with the 25th Anniversary of Whispering Jack, Australia's highest selling and most successful album ever. To celebrate this milestone John will embark on his National Whispering Jack 25 Years On in October. John Farnham and his band will perform the first half of the show unplugged featuring very special versions of some of his biggest hits as heard on the new album The Acoustic Chapel Sessions. The second half of the show will feature the Whispering Jack album performed in its entirety for the first time ever. This show is a must see for any music fan.

This is amazing! for anyone who will be in Australia, you have to see this guy perform live, seen him twice, he's still sings with power, and I think he's Perry's age too. Whispering Jack is an amazing album, it's just a neat thng to do.

The true voice of Australia, and probably the most consistent and most versatile singer of all time, very hard to argue that IMO.

Saw him twice live also, fantastic live vocals full of power. Age of reason is a great album too but he lost direction slowly from there imo.

hmm...acoustic album. Could be interesting. The acoustic part of his Last Time dvd was more rocked up than some electric shows he's done. Live is where he shines, and as said, for pushing 60, he hasn't lost much of anything vocally and he can get pretty high-pitched when he wants to.

Massive fan up through Romeo's Heart, but it's been very hit and miss since then. Still a great singer and performer--just wish his choice of recorded material would be more to my liking. Too bad he's an unknown in most parts of the world, including the US.

Ditto...and I'd go as far to say it's been ALL miss since that album.

Then Again had some classy material (Angels, Seemed Like a Good Idea, Talk of the Town, Rolling Home, When All Else Fails, etc), but precious few uptempo songs and a fair amount of filler also. Get rid of a few ballads and replace them with something that gets out of second gear, and it would work much better.

33 1/3 like every other retro album wasn't aimed at the melodic crowd. I guess it's ok for what it is, but not really my style.

Last Time and the new one are very hit and miss, and I won't even go into the Idol-inspired Aussie covers album. Take the opening track on Jack, Love Chooses You. Classy bluesy ballad, but it's very worrisome when you open the album with that song. 3 songs or so off each album worthwhile, and I don't think it's what the fanbase wants. It's almost as if he's reverted to Johnny Farnham in the old age and gone back to some of those dreadful albums.

Did Jack have any success down there, or did it sink? I'm hoping the latter, but expecting the former.

I'm a Farnham fan, but something perplexes me. 1.2 milliion sales of Whispering Jack in Austrailia is considered the highest selling album. Is that to say that AC/DC's Back in Black did not sell more than that there? With over 22 million sold in the U.S. Alone, I find that hard to understand. You would think the Bee Gees or LRB would have also sold more.

to be taken with some amount of salt...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_be ... _Australia

per this list, Whispering Jack is at 1.68 Million, or 24x Platinum in Australia. Considering Australia is something like 20 Million people at the time, it's pretty impressive. As a rough estimate for reference as to how big it was, that would be somewhere around 20 Million copies in the US compared to the US population of 240 Million at the time.

Interestingly enough, I find neither AC/DC nor LRB on the list, and the wiki page (if you believe it) doesn't have an Australia listing at all. AC/DC may be one of those bands that is more popular overseas than they are in their home country. I'd guess LRB are the same. It's a rather strange music scene over there sometimes.

Bat Out Of Hell is listed as 24x platinum over there too. That I can believe as that album's world wide sales are supposed to be around 43 million.

You're right about Talk Of The Twon...few good cuts there.

Jack went ok. Didn't hear any numbers, but there was next to no acclaim or PR following it's debut. Not sure who bought it....old farts :)

Yeah, Meat's HUGE here.... Same with a few other artists - they broke out here before other territories joined in. Pink is massive for example (she spent 3 MONTHS touring here!!!; Robbie Williams....

Wikkid! ahh good to see other Aussies here, sharing great taste in real music. I know kgdjpubs likes him as well too. Yeah I have to agree there with the direction part. Well he gotten himself all older, it seems they all head in that direction eventually don't they... even Perry did some pretty slow songs in his later years.

Johnny is playing a full album in his next tour, wow... hey why don't Journey do that? I'm pretty sure even Metallica have done it. Why can't Journey play the entire Escape + Frontiers album, then next concert do Raised On Radio + Trail By Fire and so on... are they afraid?, I don't know.

Yeah that is true... hey you know what, I noticed that Arnel Pineda is a big John Farnham fan, and he's listed as one of his big influences, that's awesome.

If you take the Phillipines in relation to Australia, it makes a bit more sense. If you search youtube, he's done a couple of Farnham songs.
