Sony Music Australia is proud to announce the release of the new John Farnham album The Acoustic Chapel Sessions September 30th, 2011. This special CD+DVD will feature some of John's most loved songs. John Farnham recorded his new album The Acoustic Chapel Sessions in Melbourne in July 2011 at Chapel Off Chapel. The entire recording process was filmed resulting in a stunning CD+DVD package. The CD consists of eleven of John's classic songs stripped back and in acoustic mode, including 'Chain Reaction', 'Pressure Down', 'Age of Reason' and more.
The DVD package includes eight songs plus interviews with John and the band and behind-the-scenes footage. John Farnham said of The Acoustic Chapel Sessions "We wanted to rework some of the songs that we have been doing on stage for the last 25 years. It's always difficult to rework something that people are very used to, having said that we have had a lot of fun doing it".
Glenn Wheatley, Manager of John Farnham said "This recording has just given me goose bumps; it's amazing seeing the songs stripped right back and all acoustic. I wonder why we didn't think about doing this earlier."
The release of The Acoustic Chapel Sessions coincides with the 25th Anniversary of Whispering Jack, Australia's highest selling and most successful album ever. To celebrate this milestone John will embark on his National Whispering Jack 25 Years On in October. John Farnham and his band will perform the first half of the show unplugged featuring very special versions of some of his biggest hits as heard on the new album The Acoustic Chapel Sessions. The second half of the show will feature the Whispering Jack album performed in its entirety for the first time ever. This show is a must see for any music fan.
This is amazing! for anyone who will be in Australia, you have to see this guy perform live, seen him twice, he's still sings with power, and I think he's Perry's age too. Whispering Jack is an amazing album, it's just a neat thng to do.
The true voice of Australia, and probably the most consistent and most versatile singer of all time, very hard to argue that IMO.

Saw him twice live also, fantastic live vocals full of power. Age of reason is a great album too but he lost direction slowly from there imo.

Ditto...and I'd go as far to say it's been ALL miss since that album.

Is that to say that AC/DC's Back in Black did not sell more than that there? With over 22 million sold in the U.S. Alone, I find that hard to understand. You would think the Bee Gees or LRB would have also sold more.

Did Jack have any success down there, or did it sink? I'm hoping the latter, but expecting the former.
Don wrote:Bat Out Of Hell is listed as 24x platinum over there too. That I can believe as that album's world wide sales are supposed to be around 43 million.

to be taken with some amount of salt...

per this list, Whispering Jack is at 1.68 Million, or 24x Platinum in Australia. Considering Australia is something like 20 Million people at the time, it's pretty impressive. As a rough estimate for reference as to how big it was, that would be somewhere around 20 Million copies in the US compared to the US population of 240 Million at the time.
Interestingly enough, I find neither AC/DC nor LRB on the list, and the wiki page (if you believe it) doesn't have an Australia listing at all. AC/DC may be one of those bands that is more popular overseas than they are in their home country. I'd guess LRB are the same. It's a rather strange music scene over there sometimes.

Yeah that is true... hey you know what, I noticed that Arnel Pineda is a big John Farnham fan, and he's listed as one of his big influences, that's awesome.
