It's their best album and, not incidentally, their best album cover. :D
The latter is true, but that album sucked. It was boring, uninspired and probably features, barring Generations, Journey's worst vocal work on an entire album. A busted voice that could only sing ballads ... in multiple takes. And that's why you never saw a tour or any performance after the album was released.

The latter isn't even true. It's not bad. It just has a little too much going on.

Journey USA 2011 Set List

1. Separate Ways: This would get everybody excited from the start.
2. Any Way You Want It: I know Jon loves Only The Young, but we don't have room for it.
3. Stone In Love: This would give a good chance to segue into the next song, the first off of Eclipse.
4. Chain Of Love: The piano at the start will make people think this is a ballad and then when it rocks out it will bring down the house.
5. Wheel In The Sky: We gotta keep rock'n.
6. Edge Of The Blade: This would give a good segue into the next song, the second off of Eclipse.
7. Edge Of The Moment: This rocks. This should be a Journey concert staple from now on and forever.
8. Lov'n, Touch'n, Squeez'n: This one segues into the next song from Evolution.
9. City Of The Angels: This would make the concert so fresh. This can segue into the next song, the third off of Eclipse.
10. City Of Hope: This is awesome.
11. Faithfully: This is a good time for a ballad.
12. Mystery Mountain: This reaches back to the early days of Journey. Also, this segues into the next song, the Fourth off of Eclipse.
13. She's A Mystery: The end of this song leaves the possibility open for an even longer extended Neal guitar jam in concert.
14. Escape: This rocks and would make a good fit right here.
15. Resonate: The fifth song off of Eclipse.
16. Lights: Everybody knows this song word for word and can sing along.
17. Don't Stop Believ'n: Everybody knows this song and can sing along.
18. Open Arms/ Venus: Tack on Venus at the end of Open Arms for a nice end of the concert jam!

Encore: If time for an encore, maybe Only The Young and Be Good To Yourself, but if not, it is okay.

LTS, Mystery Mountain, City of Angels, and City of Hope need to go.

If this is the Journey with Combat boots on tour, dump 8,9,10, 12 and 13 (She's A Mystery takes to long to get going if you have to listen to it live).
Add One More, Keep On Runnin', Message Of Love, The Time and World Gone Wild.

At what point do they shoehorn Tantra into the setlist? On Arnel's Birthday?

I think it just should have been Journey and Foreigner, tbh.
Nice setlist. A couple of tracks I would toss out and replace with others, but the inclusion of "Live And Breathe" is inspired.

That's a pretty long set, I would imagine Deen would need to help out more than just two songs. Probably four.

Not gonna happen this is a dirty dozen tour with a couple from Eclipse and maybe one odd one

The 39th anniversary tour was the best for getting that kind of stuff

It wont happen in the current lineup with three bands

Why does anyone suppose Revelations is so badly represented in the set list? Revelations is the most success they've had without Perry, and it has a lot of great songs that translate very well live, such as What I needed, and a bonafide hit in After All These Years. The other thing that baffles me about the set list is how they have abandoned the fresh extended versions they came up with on the Revelations tour and gone back to the tired uninspired versions of the dirty dozen. Heck, they even made us love Open Arms again on that tour! And when are they going to stop playing songs from Eclipse that the audiences just aren't digging and give one of the songs that main stream fans might actually get like Anything is Possible or Someone a shot? Some times (most of the time) this band just makes no sense!

I thought we were posting our concert wish lists for when Journey plays solo. I don't think any fan seriously expects to hear "Mystery Mountain" this tour, if ever.

Here is my set list. It’s not only songs I like but songs that sound well live. I also picked songs to try and get fans interested in Eclipse and Revelations and the current incarnation of Journey, while also doing enough of the hits to satisfy casual fans. I think it rocks just enough, all things considered.

Any way you want it
Only the Young
Ask the Lonely
Who’s Cryin’ Now
Separate Ways
When You Love a Woman
What I Needed (killer extended version from last tour)
Chain Reaction
Send her My Love
Feelin’ That Way/Anytime
Tantra
Stone in Love
Anything is Possible
Open Arms (killer version from last tour)
She’s a Mystery
Lights
Wheel in the Sky
After All These Years

ENCORE

Line of Fire
Don’t Stop Believin’
Faithfully (walking off stage one by one with audience singing as they did with Augeri)

AIP enjoys its fourth week in the A/C Top 30 despite not being added to the setlist No one need complain about Journey not getting any airplay again. They've got a song on the radio and refuse to play it live. I guess they're waiting until the last week of the tour to break it out.

Any wonder why Eclipse didn't even sell 500 copies last week (well, besides the fact that Wal-Mart has less than a 12% share of music sales in the U.S. these days)?

Hard to understand these guys, really. If they didn't play and sing as good as they do, and have as deep a catelog of past hits as they have, they'd been done for.

Don't you think it's weird how the how Eclipse thing happened? Honestly, the more I listen to it, the more convinced I am that the biggest difference between it and albums like Escape or Frontiers (structure wise) is that they Put the B sides on the A side, and tried to make singles out of album cuts and album cuts out of singles! Why should they do that?

Note to Neal: When we say we want Journey to rock, that just means we want the B sides and the album cuts to be solid and rockin'! It doesn't mean you have to lose your head and lose sight of what Journey is after you've made it become the thing that it is over these 30 years!

The money maker these days are the shows and not the album sales..a hit single on some classic rock chart is just a marginal success and won`t pay the bills.

A single can help pay the bills if it's a good enough song to be licensed. It might not be big money up front but when the day is over and every one goes their separate ways, their will be some who can live off of royalties for the rest of their lives and others who need to jump on the bus /plane every day just to keep making the mortgage payments regardless if they want to or not. I'd rather be in the former group than the latter.

Look at WCN. a song that did reasonably well back in the day. By being even a minor hit, it invoked memories for somebody at Disney 28 years later that decided to include it in the sound track for Monsters VS Aliens, a movie that has moved over ten million DVDs over the last 18 months or so. That's good money right there.

Sure in the long run a hit single will provide the songwriters of a band royalties and some will spend the rest of their lives on those royalties without being ever that successful or creative again but the key factor that should inspire a musician is the music not the royalties.

True, but I heard Neal's been doing an awful lot of noodling, and Arnel's had some nights where he's struggling, so wouldn't the extended versions give Arnel a bit of rest and give Neal the chance to noodle less but noodle better? Quality, Neal. Quality!

Quality? All you have to do is look at that mutt Neal just pulled out of the kennel to see what his standards are. Seriously, when's the last time Neal has pulled off solos or instrumentals like the ones he used to do live in the pre-Escape days? He tends to do nothing but shred now and frankly, it's doesn't sound that great live anymore.
