The ones in bold are the only ones remotely deserving a chance at this. As good a band as GNR was at the beginning, they are really only standing on one leg, i.e. album. They had one great album and two so-so ones. Other than that...Nada.

You don't think Joan Jett deserves a nom, RNR?!?
The Runaways, JJ and the Blackhearts, her
own record label, kickass geetar player and, I
think, on RS list of greatest ...course, I'd like
to see Heart and some others get there before,
but JJ ...love her!!

The Spinners, yaayyy!!

Yeah, I'm with MG. JJ deserves not only to be nominated, but to get in. What a fantsatic group that's kept it real pretty much their entire existence. This won't go over well, but I think The Beastie Boys also deserve to get in. They mixed rock with rap and really defined a genre. Licensed To Ill is a classic album. The Spinners? Hell yeah ... awesome group. Heart, GnR and War, too. Chili Peppers? Don't really know enough about them, but they're insanely popular and have been for a LONG time. Donna Summer? You betcha! The Cure? Fuck no!

I definitely don't know enough about all of these artists but don't agree with the ones you say are the only ones deserving. Donna Summer was a very influential artist for her genre, and I'm not sure anyone has ever been bigger than she was in that genre. You can't even make the argument that it's not "Rock and Roll", because the Rock and Roll HOF decided a long time ago that the genre doesn't really matter.

One of the worst lists of nominees ever and that's saying a lot.

GNR is absolute shit and shouldn't even be sniffing the Rock Hall. The fact they were nominated on the coattails of one decent album and a few stadium-ready anthems over bands like The Guess Who, Rush, Journey, and countless others is a travesty.

A solo artist for 31 years and the impact she had on female rockers everywhere and it's too early?

It's an absolute CRIME that Rush, Kiss, Deep Purple among others have been excluded so long.

I think GNR gets in off of Appetite For Destruction alone. At a time where you were either glam/hair rock (WhiteSnake, Poison, Motley Crue)or pop-rock (Journey, Bon Jovi, Def leppard) Guns and Roses were neither of these. AFD was unlike anything being released at that time and its debut a sales attest to the fact that people were starting to look for something a little different. Every song on that album was great.

Joan Jett might not have been the first female rock artist but she was probably one of the first hardcore female punk rockers to find success mainstream besides Blondie. I love Heart and Pat Benatar but as the HOF supposedly looks for trend setters, Jett was that at the time.

Beastie Boys made their own brand of rock with the big rap elements. They just moved 200k in sales a few months ago on their new album. Definitely have lasting appeal even after all these years, the same with RHCP.

War gets in for being one of the better representatives of the Chicano music era (Malo, El Chicano, Tierra and those types of bands).

Donna Summer gets in for being the biggest thing going for three years going during the mid to late 70s (really defining the entire disco genre) and successfully reinventing herself a decade later.

The Cure, for better worse were in their own genre and catered t o a crowd who just didn't want the big happy go lucky guitar attack that was coming from other music at that time. While I think Depeche Mode is more worthy, The Cure has earned their marks.

The HOF has pretty much identified itself as a Top 40 music HOF more than a True Rock HOF. Under that criteria, I don't have a problem with any of the nominations.

One album doesn't do it for me, especially when the dropoff between that and the rest of their material is so drastic.

The Beastie Boys, Eric B. & Rakim and Rufus with Chaka Khan?! What the fuck is wrong with these damn people.  The only reason Guns is on this list is because Jann Wenner is hoping for a reunion, a.k.a. $$$$$ by the truck load.

Based on that logic, why isn't Boston in based on Boston alone? Everything you said above applies equally, if not more so, to them.

Boston SHOULD be in. So should Meat Loaf. Bat Out of Hell is one of the Top 5 best selling rock albums in the world. When you can have one special album that continues to sell steadily a quarter century later, you've done something amazing.

Pat Benatar should be in too. She dominated women's rock in the early '80s. She won four Best Female Rock Performance Grammys in a row. She needs to go in.

Double agreed. Pat Benatar over that clown Joan Jett any day of the week. Much more significant contribution to rock. I hear plenty different Pat Benatar songs to this day on radio. Can't say I hear anything from JJ other than I Love Cock n' Roll

Joan Jett was my very first crush as a kid back in the early 80's and man i love her music so much especially those first two albums Bad Reputation and I Love Rock N Roll.I saw her open for Aerosmith in 1990 and she blew them off the stage.Hope she gets it!!! Joan is still a hot woman.Still looks like she did in the 80's.

Guns N Roses is another great band who should get in.One of my all time faves.

+1 GNR being even nominated ranks right up there with Madonna being inducted. While the exclusion of bands that have influenced thousands of others have been omitted, like Kiss, Rush, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, bands that no one wants to emulate are inducted left & right. The old adage of "It's not what you know, it's who you know" comes to mind. I bet Steven Adler is hoping like a motherfucker they get in. It will be the only way on the planet that HE will ever be part of GNR again.

There is an enormous distinction between being found "not guilty" and being innocent. I suspect Ray was a lot more involved (beyond "obstruction of justice")than some think. That said, dude is a beast of a player and one of the best I've ever seen come into the NFL.

Usually if someone is truly a thug idiot (see Lawrence Taylor) they can't help but get in trouble again.

Not a peep about Ray Lewis in a decade. Think about it.
