JSS doing the Gotthard song as a Steve Lee tribute was pretty cool also... Those special moments are what makes live shows memorable.

Got a W.E.T. setlist anyone? How did it sound (esp the backing vocals)? Hard to tell from the vids!

Pam posted one in the W.E.T. Replaces Warrant thread. I thought it sounded great, though Jeff seemed a bit too low in the mix for the lead vocal, to me.

That'll teach me for skipping ahead on the clip at work today! Missed that great little accoustic version of Warrant's Heaven (tribute to Jamie), that was cool!!

Backing vocals sound terrible and the guitarist punted on playing the awesome outro solo in its entirety. JSS sounded good, but the song didn't work live. I'm not surprised. Songs with this structure never seem to come off as well live. A Journey analogy would be Higher Place.

Guess we're coming from two different places Matt, the last thing I want LIVE is the music to sound exactly like the albums. LIVE is LIVE baby, it's more raw, spontaneous. Otherwise I'd sit at home and listen to the cds.  I didn't think the backing vocals were terrible, although the only complaint I could possibly have on that is that JSS' vocals aren't high enough in the mix for me, during the chorus. I think it would have blended better if we could hear Jeff's pipes a little more up front. Otherwise his delivery was fantastic!

I don't want it to sound just like the CD either. But the plodding verse-high flying chorus structure just doesn't seem to come off well live for whatever reason. In that respect, like I said, If I Fall is a lot like Higher Place. I LOVE both songs but live it feels like the magic is missing.

Andrew's Melodicrock Fests set the standard for backing vocals. W.E.T. should have grabbed a handful of other singers present at Firefest and had them replicate those huge backing vocals that the album had. If I Fall was pretty much a train wreck, as far as backing vocals go, and I think that song is great.

This vid never gets old. Harmonies are one of the most difficult things to pull off in music. I love seeing them get rehearsed/built like this. And of course, hearing them acapella is always impressive.

I think they all did a great job considering this was their very first LIVE show EVER, and that the guys only had just 2 days together to rehearse as a band and that none of them except for Jeff have sang any of these songs since the album was recorded over 2 years ago! I do agree that Jeff's vocals could have been up a little higher in the mix though. All in all a very successful first performance!! 8)

Not sounding like the studio recording is very acceptable but its the heavy back round vocals that makes this particular song (If I Fall) what it is. Its's what gives it its Journeyesque air.
Without that, the song just dies.
