CRAP! They lost the connection just as he was talking about his new solo stuff.

Anyone else find it ironic that the phone connection went bad when he was telling us about the new songs?

I find it more ironic that they can't get him back now.

Too bad; he was going into some detail about the solo project...you could hear it in the background between the dead space.

SHIT!! Looks like they had some technical difficulties, and they stopped the show. Hopefully, Steve can get rescheduled!

And you get to hear him sing a few words there. Very cool. 8)

Perry sings a lyric from Sam Cooke's "Cupid" at the 20:50 mark on the video {for those among us who haven't found it}. The audio is less-than-ideal {it's over a telephone}, but it sounded fairly crisp and high pitched. Not bad at all.

A decent Levi Stubbs singing impersonation at 23:29, showcasing lower range and grittier pitch.

Ok. I am convinced. I am hopeful that we'll see see Steve on stage again.. Whether you believe or not we should all as fans say a prayer of protection for him. I only say this because life can come crashing down in an instant. Great interviews by both this guy and Andrew!

I find it beyond hilarious that the loons are salivating over a few seconds of anything resembling a note from SP.

Not a diss either. Quite amazing actually. Anyone want me to call them and sing a line of "Cupid"?

Isn't that just something?
I think it shows just what an impact Sam Cooke had on a very young Steve Perry' sittin in his mom's T-Bird'
.....
Nearly fifty years later, he 'channels' it, and sings it in a crisp, clear voice...with just the right vibrato...Just wow....Sixty One years old.. Just wow..
Please, someone in the business tell Steve that he has to put down some tracks.
Now would be the right time Steve.
Seriously.

Well, considering that a lot of people thought his voice was "toast", his singing was a "return salvo", if you will.

I've seen major Singers on VH1-type shows talking about their favorite songs/Singers; then, they TRY to sing a line from one of those favorite Songs....
...and it's about 50 steps off of the original Key.

Steve sang that spot-on....and that Song is in my Alto range.

Not a diss either. Quite amazing actually.

You're welcome. 8) \~/

Sweet! Another terrific interview. It's so amazing the way he describes the slain in the spirit type of reaction to first hearing Sam Cooke...very much how I felt when I heard SP's voice (after not hearing/seeing him for nearly 25 yrs - the first time impacted me, but the 2nd time was WHOA!)...it was tunnel vision...there was a distinct, strong atmosphere crackling like an electrical storm...the world around me disappeared...suddenly being sucked back in time full speed...emotional, confusing...it was the most surreal, surprising, spiritual experience that still confounds me. So, there's my testimony to what SP hoped to achieve when he heard Sam...that cupid arrow...it worked. :)
(Oh, yeah...I have arthritis, too...ugh, in my neck...old injuries come back to haunt you in the form of arthritis.)
