LOL. You mean the Journey from 98 to now, who simply played the Perry hits live(sometimes), so the fans could be reminded how good Perry was?

I can't stop laughing. Augeri and Deen contributed "as much?" Oookkkaayy.

You sound like one of the loons you were mowing down a few years...you would have pointed out that they were Journey hits, not Perry hits. ;-) My point is that they woudn't have gotten this award if the Journey from 98 to now didn't exist.
As for Augeri, Deen, and Arnel, they were on the road more years than anyone other than Neal, Ross and Jon.

Are you including Arnel's road numbers as a non-member of Journey here because as part of the group, the guy has only done about 240 shows with the band.

For comparison, as a member of Journey Rolie did around 408 shows, Perry 586 and Smitty 427.

Why would Arnel be there? Dude is HG. When the tour is over he goes out of country while Jon and Neal (and ocassionally SP) handle all things Journey.

No, just including him as part of the post TBF Jourrney. I wasn't speaking about the number of shows. I don't know that Deen has done the number of shows Perry did, certainly SA and AP haven't. My main point was that they wouldn't be getting this award without the last 13 years of road work. I suppose some would point out I missed JSS. But I shouldn't have included Arnel in that particular sentence.

Looking at numbers, I'm on the fence about Augeri damaging his voice solely because of the number of shows he did with the band. I think much of it could also be attributed to him not singing in his natural range the majority of the time.

Yes I agree to an extent, although I think he sang in his natural range with Journey, to a great extent, judging from his pre-Journey work. Not to say his voice was as strong as Perry's or Arnel's. The highest parts and the difficulty and volume of them certainly pushed him past what was comfortable for him. Starting the Journey gig at a decade older than Perry's age when he recorded those songs, as well as having been out of the businesss for awhile, certainly was probably at least an equal factor to the number of shows.

You're right, but naturally the number of shows performed would aggravate that condition exponentially. Not to mention the fact that Augeri was in his late 30s when he joined, as opposed to Perry's late 20s.

Edit: Basically what NoMoreTails said.

Bingo! Love SA...love how Journey got back on the map with him. However, he was probably in over his head, and voice. He's a great talent. But I for one have always been surprised that he lasted as long as he did. His voice is a little different, and definitely unique, but never powered enough for prolonged Journey catalog touring.

After a few yrs (2000+), Journey let themselves get into a comfort zone of playing their music and being on the road. They put out an album or so, but that was probably more of just doing the things expected, rather than doing the things they wanted or needed. They let it go too far, and got cliche. I think this was very much evidenced by the boring shows of just them on a blank stage and not really putting on a big rock show with all the glitz & bling. They tried to change it up with that 30yr extended concert thing, but that was a gamble that didn't really work. The Def Leppard tour was just an extension to keep it all going. Unfortunately, it was too late...and they did what they had to do to keep it from dying.

That's not a diss on JSS. He was their savior, at the time. And many thought they should continue, or branch-off with him. But in the 11th hour, they finally had enough. They took a break, and re-tooled.

later~

I think this year they brought out a lot of the new blitz and blingl The fireworks at the sold-out Hollywood Bowl show looked pretty incredible

Billboard is Journey-free this week. That hasn't happened in awhile.
