No kidding. With all this stuff happening to the people we know, it makes us think about health and life more. We take so much for granted and forget how fragile we actually are.
This is pretty much like what people do when they see a nasty accident on the freeway...Everybody drives more carefully after that ( at least for a while lol)

I hope Dan is better by now. : )

I was under the impression that clots do not actually go away. The anti-coagulants/blood-thinners are to aid the blood in essentially re-routing itself AROUND the clot. That was what my Mom was told when she went through her "near-death" experience. Maybe, since I heard these details 2nd hand, I did not get all the info?

I know nothing about this, had to look it up. It is not good for me to read anything
medically related, I have all of the symptoms described. I already have
kool aid blood, so blood thinners aren't going to help me.

Seriously,
this is pretty serious stuff ...SJ is very lucky!!
Hope he's doing better ...

From a post Andrew made, it seems Dan won't be coming back to post here.
Is that written in stone?

Isn't there something you guys can do to persuade him to come back?

I'm sure he and Andrew can come to some agreement.

So please do some persuadin.

And Dan, stop dangling your feet over the edge of the bed. You've lazed around enough now.
Get your tall arse back in here.

And while we're at it, let's have Rhiannon and Michigan Girl back posting as much as they used to as well.

Hopefully he'll get to leave today! Jeesh, things like this have been reminders to me to stop putting off appts and tests I need to have done, as if my husband's wasn't a big enough wake up call too. There's another MR'er who was recently diagnosed with a life-changer also and I know it's shaken him :( These things suck, but definitely a reminder to me to get those appts and tests done even if we don't want to.

GUILTY!! I've been procrastinating as well, I hate having all those tests done. I spend enough time in the doctor's office as it is, but I know it's necessary and last weeks events around here is certainly a wake-up call to get them done!

I haven't had a physical since I was 12 or 13 years old. I'm now 43.

One of the main reasons of avoidance is that I have "White Coat Syndrome" which is a fancy name for fear of doctors. Even when I was a kid my blood pressure read high and I would get yelled at. After taking it multiple times over say a half hour it finally drops. These days doctors will not wait around that long and you will be put on meds. I may well need them now, but that is a major reason I have held out from getting a checkup.

Yeah it's amazing what we ignore when we shouldn't. I keep up like clockwork with surgeon appts every 6 mos from my mother's history, but have been awful about getting other stuff done. L and I just discussed last week about even needing to do the full body check at the dermatologist, just something I've put off for years that should be done!

Luckily for me, I get physicals all the time. That's probably the greatest benefit of being in the military. The only thing I have to worry about is getting uglier every year.

Message from Dan today:

Ginger,

Many thanks for the well wishes. I've been reading MR and WTF, as I have nothing but time on my hands. Between testing, someone being in my room every hour and them drawing blood every 6 hours, I just haven't had much time to respond. Please tell everyone that sent well wishes that I really appreciate them, and I'll tell that to them each personally soon. Until then, I'm just texting a bit and keeping close family and friends updated via the phone. I just don't have time to respond to everyone, but I sure do appreciate everyone's thoughts and/or prayers.

Dan
