I certainly appreciate their influence.

That's what I am talking about.
Getting in should be about bringing something different to the table and having success with it. There's quite a few groups with 100 million album sold so to get into the hall has to entail more than just straight up record sales. Being a pioneer or daring to be different should be rewarded over longevity and just touring until you die.

And I agree ...The Moody Blues should be there. The classical music fusion thing is just
a fraction of their offerings, they are a progressive rock pioneer.
Who said, "ELO"? I saw them mentioned somewhere, but can't find it in this thread...THEY belong!!

Couldn't agree more on the Moody Blues. I'd also add Jethro Tull, Rush and Deep Purple to the list.

Two bands off the top of my head are KISS and Rush. Both bands are going strong and still selling out arenas forty years in their careers and they both released their debuts in 1974 and even toured together in '74 and '75.

KISS has over thirty to forty gold and platinum albums more than any other rock band on the planet except maybe The Beatles,Stones and Aerosmith. They have influenced everyone from Garth Brooks to Lenny Kravitz to Megadeth to Cheap Trick so black, white, pop, country, alternative and all in between you can't deny that influence.Who else besides KISS could have band members share stage with Garth Brooks,Pearl Jam,Lenny Kravitz,Aerosmith,Ted Nugent and on down the line.

I agree! Even though Im not a huge fan, they are the most successful duo ever. I cant believe these guys are not in the hall. I also think the new wave group The Cars should be in their too. They made a very unique sound and pretty much constructed their own nitch in music.

Um yeah! It defies logic to me that a band with more than 40 hit singles, 130+ million records sold, a career spanning decades, and once had 8 albums on the charts at the same time is not in there. And yet GUNS N' ROSES (whom I like, but was really only 'big' for five years and two albums) got in on the first try. Jann Wenner's personal problem with them in action.

Agree with the other comments. It's not really a "rock hall of fame" but more a "popular music hall of fame". It's a more honest view of the inductees.

Agreed, or rename the damn thing, as some of the acts nominated are by no means R&R.

Someone tell me how a band like GNR can get in before all those bands from the 70's?

That's like putting Tim Tebow in the Pro Football HOF before Steve Young.

All nonsense aside, I am glad Myles from AB/Slash did GNR justice and they played on Saturday night. Axl thought he's bigger than the HOF, and guess what? The show went on without him.

All but REO, in addition to Rush and Kiss, I would add Yes and the original lineup of Asia.

Rush?

The list is really lacking -- others have posted more deserving bands than those on the list, and Rush, Guess Who, and even KISS (for the number of kids they influenced to pick up a guitar) should be in before any of these -- and I'm a huge Journey fan.

I agree on The Cars because they melded together a hard and melodic sound with a definite new wave twist to it.The debut album was great from start to finish not one bit of filler on the '78 debut. They made a few more albums then in 1984 made another blockbuster album called Heartbeat City and they also had some very cutting edge videos around this time period especially 'You Might Think' which was a pretty wild video. After another album or so they totally disappeared for nearly twenty five years or so.

I'm with you on Rush and The Guess Who deserving it before the rest of these bands (except Chicago would probably go in as their contemporary, too). KISS, not so much (but they do deserve to get in, don't get me wrong).
