Rock bottom was releasing concert videos to VH-1 Classics featuring the lead singer hiding his face with a fuzzy oversized microphone. This is fine. No less of a shameless publicity stunt than when Foreigner played at Nascar. And hey, at least Michaele Salahi wasn't on-stage in some slutty overalls grinding on Neal and dancing a hoedown.

This was a great publicity move that, as far as I can tell, Arnel botched. But I haven't seen a quality clip yet, though I'm hoping it will be released soon.

Aside from the one note toward the end, Arnel was solid. I didn't think he or the Rascal Flatts guy really impressed. Carrie Underwood also sounded tired. But, hey, it's a live show. Nitpick away.

I did not think this is that bad. Their appearance on the CBS morning show, where Augeri's voice wasn't working and he didn't even sound like a tenor, was asscrack horrible. This CMT performance won't win over any new fans, but Arnel didn't sound horrendous. He squeezed in a few vocal acrobatics and did what he could with a 3 minute performance. We're talking less than a full song here guys. I just don't see the point. Flatts and Journey should've done some kind of medley.

Journey was set up for failure big time. When you edit a song that everyone can sing along to by heart, totally disrupting the cadence for the audience (and in my opinion the performance also) you can't win.

Well, the whole duet thing didn't seem rehearsed enough as far as the hand off between vocals. I'm pretty sure RF sings the song a whole step down on their tour so this was different to what they are used to also.

All things considered, with Rock Of Ages opening soon, maybe Anyway You Want It would be have been a better choice.

Big difference between saying he sounded "fine" and "decent" and brainlessly jissuming fanboy accolades like "best performance in the universe!!!"
Panning the performance as completely "awful" or saying that Arnel flat-out "can't sing" is just as unfair, dumb, and cheap. I know Neal used to read these forums for feedback, but most of the opinions posted these days are jokes. Everything the band does is pretty much interpreted as the greatest thing ever or a musical sign of the beast and the end of days. In some cases, like the "Resonate" video, these apocalyptic fears are warranted. In other cases, like this slightly subpar performance, it's total hyperbole. It's live TV, folks. One performance. Barely half of a song. Chill out.

I didn't think it was awful, I didn't think it was that bad.....I only watched the clip Don posted the once but I thought Arnel sounded ok except for a couple high end notes he missed, but hey it happens to the best of them. Gotta love how people just love those classic Journey songs, that country crowd was totally singing along.

But please, please, Journey........do not follow in Bon Jovi's footsteps and start cutting country albums!

This was never intended to be about Journey at all. They were just the nostalgia act supporting Rascal Flatts, and both were riding the coat tails of DSB's recent resurgence. That's all.

Actually glad it was AP, and not some hyped Perry thing. I mean, if they'd all reconciled just for one night, and Perry did this...well, then it'd be bad press. But hey, who really gives a s#it? It's just the music business selling more product. That's America...and yes (In my best John Wayne), 'why I love her'.

Like I said, he did very well, but made some pretty bad choices when it came to the mega-notes. It's obvious he can hit them by the way he nailed the outro, but when it comes to thinking on his own, he's still an amateur.
