He's got the range. It's the band that chooses to tune down to protect from mistakes of the past with former singers.
Filipinos can hit high ranges much older than him. If you don't believe me you ought to hear my wife yell at me! LOL

Eclipse flopping and Journey's Greatest Hits yearly resurgence means back to the dirty dozen and legacy sound this tour. The experiment of trying to rock harder and have Arnel sing in his own voice has failed.

I'm going to take that as a "No, there's no way Perry could do this now."

Do you mean could Perry do what Arnel did in the videos? I think he could do it, especially the yelling and groaning at the end of the full song clip. Why anyone thinks these are good performances of WCTNGOF is beyond me.

Nah, those were pretty respectable notes and impressive sustains. The accent and pacing through me off a few times, but I'm almost certain that this is well beyond what Perry can do at this point.

Too bad Arnel was not raised in the USA. I can't begin to imagine what his capabilities would be.

I have listened to him sing in his own language but have no clue, since I can't understand the words. I guess it doesn't matter since there isn't much to be gained in the Philippines. Are there any really wealthy entertainers there or people who sell tons of albums, singing only Tagalog songs?

They make more money doing the TV gigs and singing the greatest American pop hits of the 70s live than actually selling records. Seriously, watch their TV variety programs; it's all song and dance with the majority of songs coming from the Adult Contemporary scene of yesteryear ( Stephen Bishop, Dan Hill, George Duke, etc.).
The artists and genres that Arnel is known for covering (Bon Jovi, U2, Heart) aren't really something you hear on those shows.

This was like making a shitty guitar player turn his distortion and delay off: it really revealed Arnel's shortcomings.
