Even out of this entire thread, you are a among a handful (and that's being very generous) of MR posters that loved MOS. So sorry, I'm just not buying it.
There have been
3 DOMINATING voices in this entire thread. Me, verslibre and you (occasionally, RWF.) Overall in this entire thread, 12 people watched MOS that chimed in. Here are those opinions:
G.I Jim:Well, I just got home from seeing it... WOW!!! What an incredible movie!!!!!!
verslibre:It was awesome, dude. This is going to be hard for people to stomach, but...this movie is better than (*screams from random passersby*) The Avengers. I love The Avengers as a straightforward action film that gathers the characters, but things fell apart in the end and they used a cheap, predictable gimmick to get things over with.
jestor92:I went to go see Man of Steel on Saturday and I'd probably give the film a solid 6.5 or 7 out of 10. Overall it's a very good movie, it kind of reminded me a bit of The Avengers with a slightly weaker script.
brywool:Saw this yesterday. REALLY liked it. Did watch the 3D version. Probably didn't need to, but oh well. I preferred it over the Christopher Reeve films because they didn't treat it like the old Batman TV show.
Rick:I saw it yesterday, and it's a damn good movie. Actually, I thought the casting was terrific, right down to Laurence Fishburn as Perry White. I enjoyed getting to see the back story, and was really glad to see a real action packed drama, instead of the semi-cheesy way they did it with Christopher Reeve.
Lynn:Saw MOS a few days ago. Really liked it! Thought it was cast very well. Love Amy Adams as Lois Lane. Liked a darker story SO much more than the cheesier, tongue and cheek kind if Superman movies of the past. Look toward to a sequel!
Abitman:MOS was awesome!!! Most people who do not like it, think Superman is the 70's 80's movies with Reeves. It is hard for them to get past that. But MOS is a lot like the comics, which is a very good thing. My favorite Superman movie by far, but still like the first two Reeve movies.
brandonx76:Man of Steel kicked ass...I'm surprised all the criticism levied at it - I think it has to do with the over-saturation of super hero movies...but they got this one right
strangegrey:Personally, I saw it twice. It had it's good points and it had some fucking horrible ones (the eyeball twisting CGI fight scenes, especially at the end, were awful).
RWF:
Saw MOS the Sunday after release. Thought the opening scenes on Krypton were fabulous. Overall gave it a 6.5 out of 10. I'll forever remember this movie for Pa Kent lecturing to young Clark how it might have been better to let a bus load of his classmates drown rather than save them.
TNC:Just came back from seeing it with 3 friends. Like parts of it. Other parts felt like bad fan fiction or a revisionist take on the character, which is perfectly fine. Ultimately tho, I was bored.
To that count,
9/12 people that chimed in either
REALLY LIKED or LOVED Man of Steel. One gave it props but was in the middle with feedback. The two that hated it? You and RWF. As a majority, MR-ers liked/loved Man of Steel and that's putting it lightly
But, I see you still feel the need to continue your angst towards this film. Doesn't surprise me, though. We obviously have different tastes since you've admitted to loving GL and SR (though SR was TERRIBLE, it still is an interesting film to me in a weird way. Still trying to figure out what Singer was trying to FUCKING do there...)
Personally, MOS is the comic-book Superman movie I've long waited for. It has flaws (plenty of them, there's NO disputing that) but I highly overlook those unbalanced deficiencies because we finally have a director with big enough BALLS to go through with a badass Superman.
