They are left scratching their head on why WB didn't release this version into theaters. Even Jon Schnepp, who destroyed BvS, praised it.

More than three months ago, I (rightly) proclaimed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice a triumph. Today, a lot of people are finally catching up. That’s a bit of an intentionally teasing overstatement, but whatever differences of opinion and taste separated critics and audiences over the theatrical version of the film, a great deal of common ground was discovered as Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition hit theaters and Digital-HD this week. While not everyone changed their “hated it” ratings to “loved it” after viewing the new 3 hour edit of the film, it appears most so far are declaring the longer version a big improvement, moving the film out of the “bad” column and into the “good.”
I told you months ago that I believed Batman v Superman’s reputation would improve with hindsight, and that a director’s cut would win over a lot of haters. Well, that process got underway even faster than I expected when the Ultimate Edition got its one-night theatrical release last night and hit Digital-HD hours later. If nothing else, I hope those who spent months bashing Snyder and insisting he can’t tell stories and/or that he doesn’t develop characters, will remember this was Snyder’s original version of the film and there was in fact some expectation for a longer theatrical cut than we wound up getting. I’ll understand and respect the sentiment that this isn’t a film someone enjoys (taste is taste, preference is preference, and reasonable people can disagree), or that it’s not their preferences for how to portray these characters; but any claim that it’s literally a badly made movie and/or that Snyder literally isn’t a good filmmaker is just nonsense.

Over 701 reviews already and it's sitting at 4/5 stars and is Amazon's #1 Best DVD/Blu-ray seller.
It'll be a loaded #1 come July 19th.

I thought You said BvS was going to light the fire. If SS underperforms you're going to see a lot more changes to the schedule.

Yep...WB is a business and wants to make money. If another Space Jam will make them more money, then that is what they will eventually do. If all DC can bring WB is "artistic" films that break even or barely make money, that WB will eventually not be so enthused about making them and will lower their priority in favor of films that DO make big money.

Take your best educated guess.

Now in a very rare situation, much of the critics have been apologizing to Zack Snyder and have had a change of hearts in the director’s abilities to bring on the Justice League after seeing the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman. With at least one apology telling Warner Bros. to allow for Zack Snyder’s Justice League to be released as he sees fit.

Alot of people say the director's cut of Highlander 2: The Quickening is also better. At the end of the day, you really only get one shot at this and BvsS will be remembered as a mostly-dull divisive misfire.
