Again and this is JMO...Why couldn't they have retired the name Journey and picked a new name?...New name new line up...I think if they had done that then the fans wouldn't be fighting so much as we are now...I mean when Neal, Jon, and Deen were in Bad English, I don't recall fans being split like they are now..

They didn't play a Journey concert and Bad English either. This is the same questions asked by Styx fans, and now Foreigner fans, as Mick looks for a replacement for ex-leader singer Lou Gramm. New name, and you do not get the casual fans of the group. Keep the name (which I have no problem with) and people know who you are and what to expect. I am a huge fan of Perry, DeYoung, and Gramm. They are are 3 of my 5 favorite singers, and they are now longer in the groups they helped form. But I will see them solo if they wish to carry on, which Perry seems incapiable of doing. Dennis and Lou are both working in the music buisness still. I will see the groups they were in. Same difference can not be worked out, but that is the world we live in.-ERIC

You are speculating on ALL of the above. You do NOT know how Perry's 'recovery' was perceived and predicted by his doctors. You do NOT know how 'limited' he was before, during, or after the surgery. You do NOT know how Perry reacted psychologicaly.

You are just guessing and dreaming up your own answers.

NO I am not dreaming. I have worked with patients for twenty years.
Surgical risks include death. Rehab is very difficult for some people to psychologically handle. in the mid nineties a hip replacement was downright gruesome. Today the procedures are better and the prosthesis last longer. Hip replacement patients were looking at another replacement in ten years because of the length of life of prosthesis. This is why doing one on a 40 something person used to be unheard of. This is why Perrys case is unusual.
Anyway, what was I saying.........

Say it isn't so! Foreigner is looking for another lead singer again? According to the Foreigner BTM they tried that already and failed miserably. That is one time JDK got on camera and said they should never have tried to replace a lead singer.

Q: Why did you LEAVE Journey?

I've never read or heard a straight forward answer to that question from Mr. Perry, have any of you?

To me, it doesn't matter either way..he's left Journey and I've moved on with this band, BUT perhaps (just perhaps) it might provide some closure to the diehard Perry loyalists who still find it difficult to accept Journey with Steve Augeri.

I would love to answer this, but can we all be adults about this?...

I don't want to start a war with my answers, but if some of you are looking for a "clear answer" I can shed some light on the (soap-opera era) between the band and Steve Perry...

Where did you go DV? We have been waiting . Shed some light.

Neal has tried this in the past. It didn't work. It never worked. As far as Hardline, I believe there were hard feelings with one of the Gioeli brothers over how Neal treated his sister (who I believe he was married to.)

If I knew how to work the quote I would quote myself, were I said something along the line "keep the name Journey, and people would come knowing what to expect" which were some relies "Yea,Steve Perry" That is true, but I was talking songs and sound. And Steve Augeri has the Steve Perry sound. I would expect certain songs, and for the group to sound like or close to what they sounded like in the past. If they ever put out anew cd, they can help modify that sound.
And has far as Lou being out of Foreigner, that was the news in Aug. of this year.-ERIC

Make this my life? no. I log on twice a day, before going to work, for about 30 min. which includes ckecking mail and other sites. Then for about a hour after work, for the same reason. I realy didn't start leaving messages untill I saw all the heated debate, some for good reason, then other people being tore down, for no good reason other than believing something different. The people who tear others down, they need a life.-ERIC

Talk about avoiding the real issue. This person must have less information than we do. There are sites where everyone would "ooh and ah" over such claims, but here you need some facts perhaps?? This "I am superior and have a life" smoke screen to avoid the subject is TOO FUNNY!!!! Did anyone else get lost in those 3 paragraphs of bullshit??

Distant Voice, you can smell the roses all day long if you wish.

If you are going to "shed some light", please do so or don't post statements asserting that you know what happened between Steve Perry and Journey. Try backing it up with facts that are privy to the public also. Your avoidance of backing up your statement is certainly amusing.

Ohhhhhhhh.....How I remember.............LMAO!! Indeed!

Perry UNfaithful?? Don't think so......He/She definitely knows BS when it presents itself.

Wait a minute! Who is the one who comes on these boards making up stories... POSTING AND RUNNING..... Then telling others to get a life? HA! Is this another "been there done that situation," DV, if you catch what I'm saying?

I for one do not believe you have anything!

As for people here hanging on to your every word........ with the exception of a couple of nut jobs who enjoy posting incendiary comments here, people are NOT posting 24--7, as you would like to imply. Maybe it's "YOU" who needs to get a Life.........

This discussion is as divided along party lines as the results of last nights debate. Neal's fans want to make Steve the bad guy to the point of saying he lied about everything. Steve's fans believe what he said in the BTM. We at least have his words as basis for our belief. We don't have to go looking for imaginary weapons of mass distraction.

Neither do we.
We have Herbie Herbert's non-partisan testimony.
Along with Neal's candid take on the matter, as well.
Not too mention Jon's occasional comment on the situation, too.
Now, before you claim that the HH interview is slanted in the current band's favor, let me just remind you that within the text, Herbie also calls Augeri "challenged in the talent department", claims Chalfant isn't an upright citizen and is a power control freak, says Neal always makes dumb decisions, that Ross used to be a lousy incompetent sub-par druggie bassist and that Jon Cain can't sing and pretty much bribed Herbie into getting his (then) wife a record deal.
Trust me, Herbie attacks everyone in that interview.

But regardless of whether you believe Herbie or not is irrelevant.
The most damning evidence affiriming my point of view to be correct, isn't any piece of dubious suspect online hearsay, but, rather, simply, the factual course of events that occurred towards the end of Perry's tenure w/ the group..
Upon viewing the facts and applying a little common sense, the truth instantly becomes very clear.
Here are the facts. Let me do the math for you.

In 1986, SP cut short the Journey ROR tour
Takes a long sabatical, puts Journey on hold.
Makes a 95 solo album and then proceeds to cuts short his own tour
Then in 1996 cancels the Journey TBF tour
+
___________________________

= Steve Perry not being good for the band, Journey.

You can argue all you want about whether steve hurt his hip or not, or whether he can sing or not anymore. But what you really can't argue, is that he's no longer a reliable candidate for this band anymore. Beyond a shadow of doubt, as his record clearly proves, he's just not dependable.
Even Steve Smith stated that the TBF tour was planned to be a one-shot deal. Best case scenario: Perry would have toured once and left (again). What then? SOMEBODY would have had to take his place.

I, for one, am glad we have Augeri - a hardworking full-time singer who values his fans and whose diligent work-ethic enables me to see this band on tour every year and not once on a blue moon every quarter century (like Perry).

Actually, to my dismay, many extreme right wing conservative talking heads have conceded that John Kerry won the debate last night. Everyone from Fox News, to Rush Limbaugh, to even Mister Bob Novak(or as Jon Stewart dubs him) the "douchebag of liberty", gave Kerry's performance an A, and Bush a B-.

Frankly, I thought it was pretty much a draw.

So Augeri is short on talent according to Herbie. I have heard mention of this interview several times in the past. Do you know were I can find a copy of it? Herbie was a mean business man by all means, but he knew how to promote Journey. I think he still a pissed of about Journey not bringing him back, when Steve left, because one of the deals for Perry coming back, was no Herbie. As much as Perry and Schon made Journey, Herbie got the name and shameless promotion out there.=ERIC

Although I don't post here often, I do read through here periodically. I have read the Herbie's interview before, and Herbie does NOT come off as sounding credible. He has ONLY NEGATIVE to say about everyone in the band, and hardly ANY positive.

Secondly I think Herbie is just very bitter towards the band members for going with Irving Azoff, instead of staying with him. Most likely Herbie is just real angry about all that and retaliating towards the band members. Therefore I don't put much value on what Herbie has to say about them at all.

As for your comment of "Perry is the greatest singer in history, but does he ever have a big head", I whole heartedly agree with you that Perry is the greatest singer in history, but the "big head" part and the remark about the "control Perry has over the band".

I would direct you to go back and listen to Behind The Music, where Neal HIMSELF stated that THEY "Let go of the reigns", so therefore THEY GAVE their power away TO Steve Perry.

I'm not sure why you felt the need to pop in and say you could shed the light on something and then, instead of actually saying anything about the situation, you criticize people who are asking you to just do what you claimed you could do. I'm sorry, DV, but you have a pattern of doing this--and being quite condescending while you are doing it. You seem to just want everyone to believe you know something or have some inside info, but you never deliver. Anyone who is close enough to know anything that is not already public info about Perry/Journey and their split would not be posting it on the internet. You have zero credibility at this point.

Agreed Herbie has a lot of bitterness toward the band, and he is telling "his side" of the story. I do not believe all of what he says, and he is very negative toward the band. But I was pointing out this article to all the Perry fans that think he is God and does no wrong. Perry is the voice of rock, but had his problems, like the rest of the band. Perry doesnot wnat to be in Journey, and thinks Journey should stop being. Were does that leave Journey fans, and Perry fans, and fans of rest of the band? Wanting...
I also agree with letting Perry do what he does, look at the success he brought, but at a cost, at he end it was more Steve Perry with Journey, than Journey-ERIC

I thought it was a draw too, tornado. I never listen to those hard ass pundits tell me what I should believe. I listen to the original broadcast and make up my own mind.

Why are we comparing politics to Journey? That mass distraction comment was a cheap shot. Is the poster saying this is Dem/Libs against Rep/Conservative? And that SP is a Lib?
