and this is why this new Journey will only ever be a greatest hits band in many peoples eyes.

Steve Perry should have NEVER been REPLACED!!!
He MADE that band!
You don't REPLACE artists.
This is about the music, the song writing chemistry and the PERFORMANCE-you can never replace that!
This is NOT like a manager job at Wal-Mart.
This is a person who basically took a "job" and made it his own.
I once loved and believed in that band.
That decision they made in 1998 has forever cheapened music for me.
I never in my wildest dreams thought they would reduce themselves to a cover band.
If it took 3, 5 years or however long it took or if they NEVER got back together-the unknown, what a concept!
In the end as artists, all you have is your respectability and integrity-they LOST that in 1998.
And NO, I can't get over it.
Steve Perry is the reason why I like music.
You don't replace THAT!

I have friends who stopped listening to Van Halen when they brought in Hagar.
So they moved on.
They don't incessantly bitch about it.
Why is this even an argument?
If you like what you hear, listen to it.
If you don't, just pass on by.
Arrival was fairly solid.
Remember Me was fantastic.
and Red 13 showed promise.
I like what I hear, and see (both on record and in concert).
Therefore, I will continue to be a fan.
If you don't like it, that's cool-just pass on by.
NealIsGod wrote:True. There are three incarnations of Journey - pre-Perry, Perry and Augeri. The third one is still in its infancy, so it is silly to compare it to the previous two. One CD and an EP is hardly enough material to make a valid comparison.
I LOVE Van Halen with Roth. I also love Van Halen with Hagar, but would choose the Roth Van Halen any day. I still look forward to the next Van Halen CD (if there will ever be one) just as much as if Roth was the singer. Similarly, I look forward to the next Journey CD just as much as I would if Steve Perry was still the singer.
Journey is more than Steve Perry. IMO, Neal is the heart and soul of the group.
So just appreciate Journey for what they are now. They are still better than anyone else out there.
Rock'ndeano wrote:Look, I was pissed, hurt, and bewildered by the perry absence, in fact I still am.. but you know what? the world keeps turning, we keep paying taxes, and oh yeah, Journey STILL exists!
sngrchk04 wrote:Well, considering that Steve Perry is the WHOLE REASON WHY I'm now a singer...
...Journey made the right choice and cut bait.
And, over the years, I've come to realize that I am a Steve Perry fan, and not so much of a "Journey" fan. I mean, I loved Journey....because Steve Perry was in it.

I'ts not hard to understand where you all are coming from and for your reasons for feeling the way you do.It's nice to know that we can agree to disagree without personal attacks and name calling. The future for Perry and Journey should be interesting and I do hope that we all are rewarded as to our desires for Perry and Journey, no matter how we differ.

FOR SURE! But this thread/poll was whether or not Journey should have continued on without Perry.
Yes or No??

heardonthestreet wrote:So far, I think that the poll shows an accurate account of who posts here. You have to give some of us credit for posting in such hostile territory.
