I think I may have to have a nip of Scotch or two.....neat.
One of my co-workers at the Hospital has been coming to work for the last week with a cold, sneezing, coughing and blowing his nose everywhere  now I have woken up and coughed up some yellow crap......totally pissed off!!
People who come to work sick think they are being heroic, but in fact they are just infecting other people.......a point I will be making at the next staff meeting!!

storms, bleh

Postby msmercury01 » Sat Jun 11, 2005 3:58 pm

We have a tropical storm that is almost a hurricane heading toward us. Damn, I still haven't had my roof replaced from Ivan!!! This is only the beginning of hurricane season. I hope this isn't an indication of how the season is going to go for us.

Kenny, I hope you'll feel better soon.

Teri, I'm sorry to hear you've got another storm approaching. Hope you'll come alright through this one as well.

I'm off for today. Going to freeze my ass off together with the other Mad Dutchwoman. ;)

I feel better already......I spent most of the day cleaning the house with some very loud music blaring.....it needed it. The bleach must have done the trick, as well as the scotches I had towards the end of the job!!

Goit a bit of a sore throat, but a few more scotches should fix that.....hope you're gonna be ok teri - I live in a cyclone prone area as well, but we didn't get one this year.

Well the storm went more to the north of us and it wasn't much of anything. Now I just have the rest of hurricane season to worry about!

Amazing eh, what lack of sleep can do? I even felt like I had developed a real hangover by the time I got home this afternoon. My head hurt really bad, and then I had to search where I had parked my bike at the trainstation. Slept most of the headache away by now, but I'm still feeling very tired and cold. It was a great day though yesterday! ;)

Pink Floyd reforming for Live8
07:39 AEST Mon Jun 13 2005
AAP
AP - Organisers of the London Live 8 concert have said that British rock band Pink Floyd would re-form for a performance at the July event.

Guitarist David Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason, bass player Roger Waters and keyboard player Richard Wright have not performed on stage together since 1981.

The group, which achieved major success with their 1973 album Dark Side Of The Moon, will join musical acts including Elton John, Madonna, Paul McCartney and Coldplay at the anti-poverty concert in Hyde Park on July 2.

"Like most people I want to do everything I can to persuade the G-8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the third world," Gilmour said.

"It's crazy that America gives such a paltry percentage of its GNP to the starving nations."

Waters, the group's founder, split with the rest of the band after a falling-out in the 1980s

"Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if re-forming for this concert will help focus attention then it's going to be worthwhile," Gilmour said.

Perhaps Mr. Rock (where are you these days???) is going?

This weather really really sucks right now. Hot and humid, thunderstorms every day for the past five days. I woke up this morning at around 6 AM, and it was 80 degrees (27 celcius) in the shade, and dewpoints in the 70s! (a measurement of the humidity in the air, which makes it feel hotter than it really is.) Couldn't sleep at all and I feel like a zombie. They say it'll hit 100 (38) with a heat index of 110 (43) before the last of the storms roll through and bring some relief. This is friggin' Maine, not Louisiana!

Not too shabby today. The miracle man has f***ed everything up again.

My bro requested that I format the hard drive to his music computer. The original drive had been running on a FAT16 format all this time, and wanted me to utilize the entire hard drive with a FAT32 format. He said he backed the entire band project up, and that I could proceed.

Well, I formatted, reinstalled Windows, and put in all the drivers and software...but only one problem...when we tried to access our music files, they weren't there! Come to find out, Cakewalk saves the audio files on a completely different part of the hard drive...a part that my bro didn't back up at all.

So to make a long story short, I single-handedly wiped out all the work we've done on the music project up to this point.

I followed his instructions, gave him several chances and warnings to back up files, but when it was all said and done, we're back to square one. Thanks for blaming me again for your mishaps, bro.

I'm sure he'll never let me touch any of his computers ever again.

Back again. Not really sure what to do at this point. Tried to get some techie advice from a local computer store but didn't get much help. Told me what I could do, but didn't tell me where to start.

There's a lot to be said for the old reel to reel recording methods on occasion......or even burning your shit onto a disc from the computer every now and then.

We got most of the demo versions rendered to .wav and saved to a cd-rw, so it wasn't a total loss. But the raw tracks themselves were deleted, including the latest installments of our new singer. We can't remove/edit pieces parts of songs when a file is rendered as .wav. All we can do is put those .wav files back onto the computer and rely on those to lay down new tracks.

I talked to a techie at a local PC store about the situation. He explained how fdisking works on Win98. It does a 'quick delete' where the first digit of every binary code is changed from a 1 to a 0. Technically, the information is still there, but the PC believes that the info is wiped. He said to look for data recovery software, which can go past an fdisk and a reformat and possibly undelete some of those files. This is something I've never done before, and have otherwise failed to find a freeware version of data recovery software that isn't so badly limited.

This will be a new experience for me. I PM'ed Bobbi. Maybe he can help?

Sorry to hear about the problems Jonny .... keep hope  And just like Serendipity said ... a fresh start wouldn't be bad at all.

I'm looking forward to the weekend ... it's going to be real summer weather :D ... on saturday we are going to the beach, this time without warm clothes

Serendipity you have some good weather for the festival  better take some sun lotion with you.

Answered...

When you repartition a harddisc all that will be written is the partition table. So that would leave all data intact. When you format a harddisc all it does is rewrite the boot sector on that drive and create the necessary files (in case of a FAT format, that will be the FIle Allocation Tables). The problem is going from FAT16 to FAT32... I do not know the impact of that on the file system. It should be nothing, but I can't be sure.

In any case... If you want to try to salvage the disc, under no circumstance use that disc. Every time you use it, there is a chance that (especially) Windows will need to write something like a pagefile/swap file.. And bit by bit your salvagable data will disappear.

I had to use a Data Recovery tool once, it isn't pretty... I learned my lesson and ever since I use a disc imager, to preserve my binary madness. All problems have been lifted since...
